swirl flaps on e46 320d

Good evening BMW fanatics, hope you are all well. I would like get some opinions regarding the swirl flaps on the e46 320d,what is the pros and cons of removing/deleting them?

Good evening BMW fanatics, hope you are all well. I would like get some opinions regarding the swirl flaps on the e46 320d,what is the pros and cons of removing/deleting them?

From my own research I have found they CAN be a problem if they come loose and they can get really gunked up from carbon build up.
 In my own experience however, my M57 had clean ish swirl flaps and manifold but deleted them anyway as preventative maintenance and did vacuum lines while they were easy to access.
