Doesn't the 330i have around 170KW? what if you chip the 330i aswel? It might just be me, but I like petrol versions more? and I do want to supercharge the thing. But as far as I know you cant do much with a diesel in performance wise?

You might gain 15kW tops on N/A.

The thing is, chipping a forced induction car has WAY more potential than a N/A car.

That said, if you have the moola to supercharge (min R60k, unless you have a machine shop), go for the 330i. It will be less reliable than a chipped diesel, though.

Diesel will be the best bang for buck by far (if you chip it). Keep in mind that the E90 330d with a chip runs with the stock 335i more or less.

Everybody always will tell you to not bother with the 4 pot engines.. they will say dont mod it its not worth it.. But if you want to mod then go ahead..
you will spend more on it but if its what you want to do then do it..

but the M43 engine you have is crap to mod(I know as I also got it)

but if you want to do a 4 cyl car then there are options..

search S42B20 engine on google.. it will blow your mind, M42B20 engine that does 235kW, naturally aspirated

from what I have read, you can get the 4cyl engines to make crazy power..

I have also read about 4cyl turbo BMW's that make extreme power... but its an expensive route to go.

but I would love to see a high revving 4cyl turbo BMW :)

Another thing to consider is the insurance premium on an aftermarket turbo 318i vs a stock 330

you can always look at doing an engine transplant and throwing a V8 in there, there were lexus V8 engines going for a steal with full ecu a while back, now that would be awesome power!
(ps pls dont kill me for suggesting putting something other than a bmw motor in a bmw) :sorry:

I would look at getting at least a 2.5 litre BMW before you supercharge.

I have a BMW e46 323 (which is a 2.5 litre) and have Burgy and his project shift team doing the supercharger conversion on my car.

We have a VF engineering kit coming in from the states, Vortech V3 supercharger, 380 injectors, powerflow exhaust, decat, excede chip for stage 1.

If you are really wanting more power, and do not want to upgrade to a bigger engine, a supercharger is your best bet. Too much trouble with a turbo on a 4 cylinder and you also lose your air con system. Not cool for us SA boys.

Speak to Burgy from Project Shift, he can get you a good price on a supercharger kit with install.

Check out the blog I have going about my car that Project Shift has been working on http://e46silverwolf.tumblr.com/
