Hey guys

Had our engine replaced but issue is still there. Latest feedback is updated software that retards the timing thereby "fixing" the problem. Bleh.

Yep :(

Lets see what happens. BMW SA want to do a thorough check on the ancillaries first. Car goes in first week of March.

Will keep all posted.

Right so the wife and I have had enough of this nonsense. 11000km's; Knocking all the time, 3 turbo's down with all sorts of other issues and engine light on again this weekend. :bangdesk:

Car is being picked up this morning after a few phone calls and Mini/BMW head office are sorting it (hopefully meaning a new car).

Its really shocking the issue of super knocking. They revised the engine completely at the end of 2010, one would expect all the issues to be ironed out.

Apparently theres no fix to it, all they do is throw in a fuel injector cleaner additive to the tank to help the problem. Too much carbon build up in the engine :fencelook:

Why did the car go thru 3 turbos? Does the issue cause the turbos to fail?

I doubt they will give you a new car, maybe a new engine completely.

I think the 1st turbo blew, 2nd one was faulty and 3rd one gasket blew. Not sure if the 1st one blowing was caused by the knocking or not and I'm not sure what the engine light is on for this time :nonono:

Problem is not with the big boys at BMW so let's see.

So car went back in last week for the software update to retard timing. Took car for a test drive and it didn't feel like a Cooper S. Advised I will not take vehicle with that level of performance!!! Pointless buying a Cooper S if it doesn't go like one should......So we now waiting their further investigation.

So sad that this issue can't be fixed.

So in the week preceding the sale of my car, the same week I put up the advert, my engine went again. Trust me when I say I had a hard time explaining to the prospective buyer why the engine was replaced!

When I got it back I had a full 3 days to enjoy it before it left my hands. I don't know what they did but they somehow fixed the problem!

I spoke to Glen at Auto Alpina Boksburg and he said its kind of a mystery problem with those engines. No one knows what or how it happens, and after I told him mine disappeared, he could not explain how or why.

Sorry to hear your problems bud. These cars would be so much better just with a slight change of engine.

Thats such a sad story. Sorry to hear this. I too had the super knocking issue and mine seemed to resolve itself with good fuel, injector cleaner and halving the service intervals.

She still does it from time to time but only if she is cold. If I let her warm up for about 15min of driving, she doesn't knock anymore. Its a funny story this...

Yeah. I think so too. Lets see......

Thanks Gents.

Latest is BMW are opening a PUMA case again. Car will probably be in for some time.

oh yes the rattle sound of detonation that I know all too well hahaha .

I do have to ask, what petrol are you guys running? ( petrol makes a big difference)

I used to drive the same in my THP cars... why not try the new Engine 95? I hear they say the octane rating is closer to 98 won't hurt to give it a go in one or 2 tanks?

I only use Shell VPower 95 and have tried the new Engen Primax 95 and ill be honest its just as good if not better.

Though, Shell 95 VPower is still my first choice. All other fuels cause major knocking on my baby.

Im glad thats working out for you

But I feel Its not supposed to be that way :fencelook:
Buying a 'performance' car the power should always be available no matter what fuel and this knocking can break the engine :fencelook:

Seems like the supercharged models are more reliable :argh:
