Sudden loss of power and rough idling (e46 318i)!?

Hi.
Hope someone can help. My f/l E46 318i (N42) was running great until today. Stopped at a friends house, chatted, got into the car 20 minutes later, and suddenly rough idle and a great loss of power too! Checked the plugs (they looked good) did the wire brush thing, but still the rough idle and power loss. No error messages on the dash. Fuel was very low beforehand, I refuelled and everything was OK until I stopped at my friends house. Wft!?

Coil packs was replaced sonetime back by previous owner.
From experience with older cars and bikes, a coil either works or not, no in between.
Mine is a high miler, 252k km. Trouble free for me until today. How the hell can all be fine the one minute and the next buggered, no warning! Plugs looked good. Car service history at Continental in PE. Scheduled for an oil service next month

Rather than chasing every possible item, I recommend you get diagnostics done on the car. The least you'll get out of it is possibly which cylinder its potentially misfiring on...

Local BMW guru done the diagnostic thing and identified a dead coil pack as the culprit!
