SubLoaded's F30

Hi Gents,

So as some of you may know, I've recently sold my Audi A4 in favour of another tractor. We've always had that one poverty spec'd vehicle in the garage, which takes on the daily duties, and that happened to be our ex-Audi A4. 16" wheels, fat-ass tyres, and stock AF, with no mods, or even any intentions for mods. Heck, she hadn't even seen window tints till this day :biglol:

She's now been replaced with another poverty spec car, but this time I had decided to stick within the BMW stable ('the devil you know'). The Audi left us with a bittersweet goodbye, as I had gotten rid of it just before the plague of apparent TFSI issues which I was not keen to deal with. I say apparent because the car performed faultlessly for most of the parts that we had it, with a few, minor-but-expected, hiccups along the way. From what I've read, these cars drive perfectly, until they grenade themselves, in true VAG fashion. Having that said, she definitely was a reliable car, to us, and drove well until the day we bid her farewell. I will definitely miss seeing those 4 rings in the garage...

Onto the details of the replacement then...

So my requirements were similar to the spec, defined above. I visited SMG, in Durban, where I was greeted by a very efficient saleslady who had attended to me. Viewed, and drove, a car that was there, which was advertised on their site - without pictures. Makes sense, nobody wants to see a baseline  :roflol:

A week or so later I was in my "new" F30 320d. She is a base model with Xenons and front/rear PDC.

Collected her earlier this week after the following items were attended to by the branch:

  • Replace all 4 tyres (Pirelli Cinturato P7 runflats).
  • Replace inner door handles (seriously wtf is up with BMW and plastics and rubber).
  • Redye arm rest (it wasn't bad but was an eyesore to me).
  • Refurb some minor scratches on a wheel.
  • Detail.
  • Oil Service.
Other than that she seems to be a "no nonsense" buy, and drives just like how a "low mileage" car should.

Some pics, on the day of first viewing, and before we collected...

Received the car with a full tank of diesel and some goodies, in the boot, courtesy of SMG.

I didn't really keep this thread active as there were no updates on this vehicle other than it worked flawlessly every single time.

Disappointed to announce that it was recently water damaged, and written off, as a result. Heavy rains can really do some unsuspecting damage - didn't even drive through a flooded area!

Question for the forumites regarding insurance:

Is it possible to insure a vehicle for it's actual replacement value? Bit of a weird question considering these prices could fluctuate. I had to put in a fair bit of cash for the replacement considering the book value payout vs the market value of a similar used vehicle (there really wasn't anything given the price point, mileage, condition and history anyway...). It really leaves one in an odd position, considering it is not a rare/exotic or vehicle with noteworthy extras 😥

Will start a new showroom thread - probably another one that won't see many updates. One must have a boring non M-sport daily to do the things in my opinion 😁
