And then it was time for a car wash in preparation for someone's big day... It was a sad day for me today, when @KPM_330 took ownership of this car...... for the day.

Congrats to his family, the newly weds, who evidently have great taste in cars.

I can't thank you enough bro.. Really big gesture of you to loan me the car for the day to do wedding duties :praise: My brother absolutely loved the car and wants a 5'er for himself and the wife now, after experiencing yours :roflol:

The car performed faultlessly and I have to say, it goes like the clappers with a soundtrack to match... If only the B9 A4 TDI Ultra could talk about the trip back from the bride's house :tiptoe: Really enjoyed the car and that ZF8 is a masterpiece :blowheart: Changes the entire driving dynamic, almost like a dual clutch system.. Makes the ZF6 in the E90 feel almost archaic by comparison :fencelook:

Enjoy the car bro.. It really is an epic daily!

Attended KZN's Dyno Day last weekend. What an awesome event!

Happy to see that she put down some healthy figures

It was then time for a mini-vacation. The car really amazed me on the, long, open road. Smooth, easy going, and would just keep climbing up the speedo, even with minimal throttle. The power delivery is much different when compared to my older NA i6.

The consumption was epic throughout the trip however I ended up getting a speeding fine so yeah so much for saving some bucks with a diesel hey :roflol:

Getting this thread back up to date after the issues, and data loss, experienced on the forum...

Not a lot to report on other than the car racking up some significant mileage in the past few months.

Hit this milestone not too long ago:
img_20190727_211658_7527587756.jpg

Decided it was time to start with the interior mods. After chatting to @Rayzor - I ordered an NBT scroll/knob from AliExpress and it arrived in about 25 days. Quite impressive this time around.

The package consisted of the two pieces needed to complete the mod along with a flathead precision screwdriver.

Before:

Popping the existing piece off:

New piece installed and lit up:
img_20190723_164454_3354129698.jpg

The new piece coincides with the original buckle, which makes it as easy as popping the old piece off and just securing the new piece on the existing buckle.

Other than that - I've installed the sound, that was in my previous E92, into this car and it has changed the audio system quite a bit. The OEM speakers could not go very loud without having the bass quite low. The subwoofer in the boot is now the 'hardworker' here and I can turn the volumes up whilst having the bass relatively low. The OEM speakers aren't as stressed and distorted now and there is ample bass coming into the car. The airtight boot is actually working in my favour here as I do not get ridiculous amount of bass into the cabin - however it can be pretty ghetto if I turn the bass settings up :fencelook:

The F10 is quite well insulated, so whilst it sounds pretty loud inside the vehicle, not much can be heard from outside. 10/10 would recommend to anyone with base sound that is seeking a cheaper sound system 'upgrade'.

That, now, brings this thread up to date again. I am 'due' for an early service which I will get done this week and I've been on the lookout for an intake upgrade which @Firi and @Twinz have been assisting me with.

Looking good bro, Please update more info on the sound installation. I need to do the same to mine. Like where did you pull the feed from to the amp. :ty:
I have installed OEM HI-FI mids and tweeters, the clarity is defiantly much better now but the bass is terrible :blueCry:

It's nothing fancy at all. I think it cost me in the region of R4000 for everything back when I bought it, and has traveled in 3 different cars now :hammerhead:

It is a 12" subwoofer with a ported (tube) box and an Audio Gods amplifier (I think). I did not do the sound installation myself, due to time constraints, this time around. I did see the guys, at the sound shop, opening up the panels along side the LHS rear and passenger doors. I;m not sure if they tapped into the underseat subwoofer for a signal but I did see them doing something with the rear speakers as well. I'm quite certain that the remote wire is coming from the rear speaker and the bass signal is from the wires connecting the underseat subs...

Do not touch your combox/wires. You will end up having no sound at all. I believe it has something to do with fibre optic cables, and the resistance, but stand to be corrected. If you must go with this method then note that MOST is the fibre optic cable, you will have one going into your combox and then into the head unit. If you disconnect the MOST from the combox then you're breaking the loop /circuit. You need a loop terminator to ensure that doesn't happen.

I did not need to touch the radio/headunit at all.

As you would know, the battery sits below everything in the boot so you're going to have to mount your amp onto the board between the boot and the rear seats. I have used pretty big, and durable, screws and the amp always falls off after launching the car. I can only imagine that your N55 will be more brutal so if you manage to find a better way to secure your amp then let me know!

The only frustrating part of this whole sound 'upgrade' is the fact that the F10 still plays music after turning the car off - and will turn the radio off once you lock the car via the key-fob. You're going to have to remember to either press the stop button twice, to power down the radio/electronics or to pause/mute the audio if you need to open the boot; otherwise it's bye-bye subwoofer :hammerhead:

You also going to want to remember to power down the car, at car washes etc, or when parked off to turn everything completely off as the battery will get drained if it's just the electronics that are powered on. I will most likely install a switch so that I can turn the amp/sub off when necessary however I hate random wires/buttons in my car...

The scroll looks good, just need to hear the system now...

I just installed a gain next to my seat in the e46, which is not really visible. Usually just use this to modulate on and off with the sub - its always powered down when switching the car off. Car parks for almost a week at a time so didn't want to experience any battery drain.

You can code the HU off when the engine off. Then it will not trouble you much.
I have Focal BMW split kit in my F10. It does sound way better than original factory base stereo. Also I found that HK NBT HU having DTS. Compared to my old Alpine Champ HU, new HK HU definitely improved the quality.

First world problems. I like the radio staying on until I lock the car however now it can be a bit of a nuisance if I need to get something from the boot.

Are these the speakers that you mentioned? What did it cost?

Also, where did you source your HU from? Assuming that you went with the 10" option? Post some pics :fencelook:

The speaker is exact the one showing in your hyperlink. I've got from Rivonia Car Sound. Straight plug and play.
Here are some pictures for my retrofit. I had written all the steps of retrofitting in my post. The HU is 2nd hand, sourced from China as OEM parts, around R11k.

Some cosmetic goodies were put on this weekend...

Lip has been replaced and I've swapped out the grills for the dual slat M5 grills.

Little teaser... :fencelook:
