Hi All this is a small step by step on how to remove the cup holders from your e90. I had to do it due to a spillage that was causing the trays to stick on the way out.
Step 1: use a knife or small sharp plastic thing to avoid damaging the cover. I started on the left as there was more space between the cover and the dash. Put the knife between the two and prise it open
Step 2: Once you have got the trim off far enough to get a grip on it. move your fingers along lifting the trim as you go when you get to the middle be very careful as the two centring pins are quite tight and requite even pressure on both pins at the same time to avoid breaking the pins from the plastic.
Once you have the trim off you will see two torque screws either side of the tray simply unscrew them
Once the screws are loose you can pull the trays out from the cavities holding the front of the tray.
I hope this helps someone along the way
