Steeringlock Warning sign - E90

Agreed with the "full lock" reason.

The same happened to me a few weeks ago. Switched the car off while at full lock to check something on the inside of the wheel. When I switched the car on I got the power steering light. Turned the steering wheel and it went out.

Have not had any problems. I figured it was caused by the full lock.

okay will check
how ever this is just the red light with the steering and the lock
no yellow light
also i noticed if the key is not in the steering does not lock.
does not make any sound either.

will check what these stealers say tommorow.

BMW charged me R208 for a full day's work on installing updated software on my 330.

Try getting a diagnostic report done, then you'll more or less know what's the problem with the car.

Best of luck:thumbs:

okay went there this morning and they put the key in their
pc and it poped up that the Steering lock needs to be checked.
my steering lock works perfect though..

when i switch of and remove teh key teh steering locks.
once i put the key back in the steering unlocks.

Did they check it though? Mine was also only intermittent and would usually be weeks/months between having this error. It was just that one specific day where it was doing it repeatedly - was sh1tting bricks because it was a Sunday and was away from home when this was happening!!

they called me yesterday to say they reloading the some software
and needs the car overnight and will call me at 08:00am to advise if it worked or if they need to replace the steering lock.

Insurance does not want to hear anything and my after market warranty only kicks in from end of April

This is exactly the thread that I remember reading - quite a process, but when you see what is really the problem, having to replace the entire steering column seems so stupid and unnecessary.

So the car is not unable to drive at the moment, but then what is it doing? Not locking the steering lock and/or showing the error message?

no errors
it showed the red lock with a steering sign
i took the car to bmw yesterday for a check up.
they said they going to keep the car over night to reload some software.
they called me today to say the quote is R11 528.03.
i told them when my warranty kicks in i will bring the car

i collected the car now and there is no warning sign's on.
so not sure if bmw thought i would just cough up 11K and all they did was a software reload.

Okay, so then just intermittent and not permanent. Now the error message I had was the orange symbol, not red, not sure what makes the system decide which to show and exactly what it signifies. I reckon it's safe to say that this is simpler and less costly to repair than replace, and with E90's more and more entering the used car market there is bound to be many more practical and affordable fixes for these sorts of problems - well, hope so!!!

Well this happened to me this morning, yellow warning light came on, car was parked with wheels straight. took key out and reinserted and it went away. stopped once on my way to work switched off, and started and did not come on again.

Are you guys in Josie with the cars parked outside?

It could be the cold nights and morning that are causing the components to contract and become sticking

I used to have a permanent yellow sign, when the fob was out I could turn the steering without it locking. I drove it for a year+ in that condition, eventually I decide to replace it I got a good used steering column for R1500 + programming R250 + labour R500. Its as good as new now
