Steering Wheel Vibration / Play

Im getting a vibration coming through the steering wheel starting at 100km/h that becomes progressively worse the more speed is increased.:cursin:

It happens when im not touching brakes, but when i do it gets worse.

When the car is standing and steering wheel is moved side to side, there is quite a loud 'clunk' sound (sounds like its coming from the steering rack) :dropjaw:

What could this possibly be?

I have recently replaced the following:
-front lower control arm bushes
-brake disks and pads
-New front tyres (conti sport2) balanced, front rims are fine

so i dont think its either of these

Could this be bad tie rod ends? or rack?

Could be tie rods or rack, but check tyre pressure and balancing first. That often can cause it, maybe when they put the new tyres on they didnt balance it correctly.

Or even in some cases the way the tyre is fitted to the rim - as far as I know there is always a marking that has to be positioned where the valve is on the wheel. In some cases I think this isn't always correct and the tyre can behave as if it has run-out - bakkie tyres tend to suffer from this and even worse, they can tend to have a side to side wobble! When you have the wheel balancing checked have a look if you can see signs of flats spots or an "out of round" behaviour... It may even be a case of the tyre needs to be rotated slightly on the rim - also check to see if the rim is running true without any run-out.

I would re-check the balancing ( at a different fitment centre) and check the shocks.
Check run out on the discs. If the hubs were not properly cleaned before the new discs, dirt between hub and disc can prevent the disc from seating true to the hub. Multiply by the radius of the disc. . . can cause a big run -out of the disc, slapping the caliper and steering around.
