Steering/Wheel knock and vibration

hi guys

Wonder if someone might share some light on this. i have a 325Ci 2005 model. Lately (the last 2 months) when i break hard or after i have been driving the car for a while, the steering starts shuddering a lot and the whole steering column starts vibrating, the harder i break and keep on the brakes the worse it gets. I have done the alignment and balancing and it made no difference. I had new control arm bushes put in April and i have new front discs and brake pads. I even had my front 2 rims repaired as it had a slight buckle and still i have this issue. Also to add to this and i dont know if its related, and its happening more often now, i hear and feel a knock everytime i go over a bump or speed hump or something like that, sometimes even when im just turning my steering or even when the car is driving straight. Is seems to be coming from either the steering rack or suspension, but im not sure. My mechanic said it could be the steering spindle or actually he is sure of it as its a common issue.

Any ideas or help guys, this is getting really annoying? thank you!!

Have you checked your shocks and shockmounts? Those rubbers also wear out and can cause vibration under braking.

thanks guys, i guess il go with his diagnosis. The spindle itself is R1500 and he says its quite an intensive labour job. I will get him to check the shock mountings as well. Hopefully this will sort it out. thanks guys...will report back!!

I had the similar problem ..........after spending R6K and 5 different shops doing ALL the above mentioned and nothing worked .I then had my front disc on the car sceemed .It's a pleasure driving now .I don't say it's the solution but try it - on car disc scheming it just cost R275 for both front wheels.
