Just remember that DIY is for left-hand drive. You'll need to buy/make a custom steering knuckle between the shaft and the rack.

I swapped my e36 316i rack for a z3 rack, here is the reason.

92-98 E36 3.2 Turn to Lock Ratio Rack.

95 E36 M3 3.0 Turn to Lock Ratio Rack.

95-97 E36 Z3 1.9L 2.7 Turn to Lock Ratio Rack.

It was a totally bolt-on mod, made a huge difference to the feel of the car, awesome to race.

He has an E30, it's not entirely bolt on.

Gizmo, the Z3 and the and the M3 3.2L have the exact same rack and pinion. The only reason the Z3 rack takes less turns lock-to-lock is because it's actually shorter. If that doesn't make sense - an M3 3.2L rack will turn at the same rate as a Z3 rack, but the Z3 rack will reach full lock sooner than the M3.

In a race car that isn't a problem, but with a daily driver and parking lots to deal with, get the M3 3.2L rack if there aren't any issues with wheel/tire fitment and rubbing at full lock.

If I installed the 3.2lt rack, i would have clearance issues with the wheels on the inside when at full lock.

If you want my 316i rack its in perfect condition, give me R800 for it. Drop me a pm if you're interested.
