Hi guys...

Need some help...
When starting my car, sometimes it does not fire instantly.
It starts but idles really low and wants to switch off.
(The same way when one stalls, and the lights on the dash remain on)
If i tap the accelerator it fires up properly and then idles normally.
Everything is normal after that.
What could be wrong?
Or is there no issue?

Thanx in advance.

can be your water Temp switch screwing around! Mine did that when the switch went! The swich tells the ECU to give more fuel when car is cold and lean it out when you pick up heat! Get diagnostic check done but it can also be cause of winter comming up!

Just wanted to know how serious cos only got 1500km left on motorplan.
Just don't have time to go by the dealers, but will make a point before the plan expires...

OK...
Car is at bmw since yesterday.
They called me today and said the problem is being caused by the fuel pump. Having it replaced under plan thankfully...
Will follow up with the total cost when i receive my car...
Before the weekend i hope !!!

Hey guys !!!

Still having the above issue after replacing the fuel pump.
BMW can't seem to find the problem.
My car's been there twice already and diagnostics not picking up anything.
In addition what i find is after cranking the car a few times it starts.
But if i try giving it fuel the car starts but there is a puff of smoke from the exhaust and then everything is fine.
Furthermore, if i'm driving and switch off the car and then start it say within 10 minutes it fires up normally and everything is just perfect...

Any ideas ???
Is this a major problem worth stressing over ???

Thanx in advance...

Regards

Sed it back to them and make it their problem! if they cant sort it let them get a specialist in and if all fails report them to hellopeter.com!
Agents are using Appies for cheap labour to do services and alwas stories with specialised problems! sons of bitches!

Finally sorted out !!!

The car spent the whole week at the dealers and finally sorted out the problem.
The fuel filter was clogged and had that replaced. Not sure if the filter was causing the problem or a injector that was leaking. Had that replaced too.

Hats off to the guys at Auto Glen !!!
Now the car starts first time, everytime...

my car has been doing teh same thing ever since I put fuel in at total! I suspect I may have a clogged fuel filter as well.

That's interesting.

Every single used BMW I have bought has had the original fuel filter (With the date of production stamped/printed on it), even those that had a long motorplan life at a good dealer.

What's up with that, are they not supposed to change it or what?

When i spoke to the mechanic that worked on the car, he said that the one on the car was the original filter that came with the vechile. He wasn't sure if it was the filter or the fuel pressure regulator that was causing the problem. They however come together as a single unit. He also mentioned that it should be changed at around 120000km or every five years. I'm still not sure whether if the filter or the leaking injector or a combination of the two was causing the problem. As long as the problem is sorted out, i'm happy. I guess they only change the fuel filter when there's a problem.

Only snag was they couldn't sort out the problem while the car was on motorplan, so had to foot the bill myself.

and what was the ammount??

Parts: Fuel filter +- R820 , Brake Fluid +- R30 , Injector +- R1450 and some other odds and ends totalling about R100.
Total labour was just over a grand. Don't think it was so bad as this included the brake fluid flush, diagnosing the problem which took a long while as no error's or faults were being picked up as well as replacing the parts.
Grand total of +- R3600.

things have chaged in 3yrs! When i had my 320d, bmw replaced my clutch and flywheel after motorplan expired, i had complained about a shudder while the car was still on plan and they did nothing about it, luckily though, they noted on the jobcard that i complained regarding aa clutch shudder.

you see, just another reason I want to upgrade to a newer model with motorplan.
I dont have the $$$ if something breaks.
My current motorplan expires October 27th 2010, and I cant extend it any more.
My km is +-86000, 2003 e46 325i.
