starter problems

hey new to this site and need some help changed my starter on my 2004 320i wont start with key but will turn over if jumped at the solenoid black wire.I lose my voltage at black wire if i use the key.:argh:

could be that the ignition key tumbler is faulty ?

Apparently there is a little switch at the base of the ignition barrel that is prone to failure.
