Whilst driving at a constant speed (90km/h) for long periods of time all of sudden the car will back fire and seem to lose power, etc Within 2 seconds all is forgotten and back to normal.

Whats up with that? Could it be the flux corpacitor?

Sounds like there is a problem with the time continuim doodat...:)

Perhaps a fuelling issue, fuel pump or filters needing att?

Something like that would be linked to a sensor of some sort. If you can hook up the car to the machines and see if they spit out a fault code or two, that would put you on the right path. Good luck

Hi there.

You dont mention your model.

If the car back fires it can be the:
1. airflow meter
2. cam position sensor
3. crank angle senso
4. bad earth

Suggest you do a diagnostic as fault code should be stored on ECU.

My father in-law's Chev Captiva also had a "poop" now and then. The vehicle went from dealer to dealer with no sucsess.
We, me and me wife went on a boat cruise "Simfonia" and i used his Chev (Daewoo) to drive to Durbs. After cleanning the barrels a bit, it all stopped.Even up to now my fater in-law say the "poop" is gone.
So my advice to you is, drive her full throttle for about 30kms and she will be fine!!

Sounds very strange, try to check the following

1/ faulty fuel pump
2/dirt in the injectors
3/fault on the ecu
good luck !!!!

I also had problems on my E34 like that and 1 day just didn't want to go anymore. Fuel pump pack up and the air flow meter's power cable pulled out just enough not to make contact. Check for codes on ecu, if there is nothing just do a pressure test on the fuel line in front or just check everything on the fuel line. Good luck.

Thanks everyone, I have had my codes checked and hey no real codes. The ecu picks an airbag problem, of which I am aware of and a internal computer error, could be anything!

When the weird thing happens, no engine warning light comes on at all, therefore no data is stored in ecu?? I will have to check other things

Glad to hear there is no error codes, that's always a good thing, except in this case where the problem is still with you. Just check the other things that was mentioned here as well. I can tell you now it is going be something stupid and small. Good luck.
