Some general questions - '97 E39 540i -

Hi All, I have a few questions which I hope you might be able to answer. As mentioned in my introduction I just recently picked up an E39 540i, 1997 model.

1 - Door Locking
Are the doors supposed to lock when you drive off? Mine do not.

2 - Light Warning
Are you supposed to get a "Lights On" message when taking the key out the ignition or opening the driver's door.

3 - Door Warning
Are you supposed to get a "Door Open" message when one or more of the doors are not closed? I have the "High Cluster", IE the one that does not have the little car graphic display.

1. Mine locks when driving off. This can be set by a dealer or someone with the neccessary software.

2. I get a lights on warning. Again, sure this can be activated.

3. I get a door open warning on my car.

I have a 97 540 as well.

1) I noticed on my 2000 528, when using the original key my doors lock when I drive off, but when using the spare key, they don't?:dunno:

2) Lights warning should work.....

3) Door open warning should also work.....

Have you checked all your fuses?

I'd like to know something too.... Are the doors supposed to unlock when turning the car off and removing the key? Mine don't...

Also, no seatbelt warning ping? Just curious...

My doors also don't unlock when removing the key.

Also got no seat-belt ping (which I prefer lol)

Okay cool so I'm not the only one :rollsmile: Still need my headlight adjusters fixed, like, tomorrow the latest :fencelook:

Would prefer to stay away from DIY (doesn't look like a simple procedure) and I don't think the bank account is looking forward to having someone else do it either :fencelook:
