Software

Hi Guys,

I really need some help, i have read 100's of threads all over the net regarding software updates for my Mini R56. I want to know how do you make a choice on who to do your software with?

My mind is currently set on Project shift, as he is a sponsor and have heard only good things about his work and his current special but i mean there are plenty of tuners here in jhb and the gains are more or less the same so how do you make the final decision?

I am very sure that it isnt about the prices!

:ty:

dont know the mini well but in general you should decat before you tune to keep the turbo cool...

I have seen that but that still doesnt answer my question on how to make the choice?

I know Project shift does custom tune so that is all good and well but then im sure there are others who do custom tune as well, so what makes PS tune so special?

I mean if 10 tuners offer custom tunes who would you pick and why them if all the gains are more or less the same??

I hear Evolve are the UK MINI specialists but i like to keep it local :inlove:

Moranor, what is decat firstly

i have not seen enough of project shifts tuning to really say how good their tunes are, but in general Burgy offers good service :)

i would also contact chiplogic they also have a shop in Jhb and they do good work on bmws...

as far as mini goes im not that clued up so i dont know who would be best to use...

Xcede have also done a few R56's with good results.

There are lots of good reputable tuners so it is a very difficult choice.

The important question is, what do you want to achieve by the upgrade ? Apart from the obvious power increase.

I'd say leave software for last. Do your standard mods first. Like Moranor says.

+1

And I say take your car to Project Shift , he'll tell you all about what kind of map he's gonna run on your car ,etc .

I'm in the same boat. Cobb also makes huge power on the JCW's but they say it won't work on the SA spec Mini. I don't know why!!! If anyone is selling an OEM catalytic converter section from a R56 pleas PM me. I want to try decatting first before tune.

Hi Guys,

Sorry to ask what would seem dumb but what would be the standard mods?

If someone could break this down for me please 1-5 in order of mods to be done, i would appreciate :praise:

Please also remember i dont want to void my warranty and i was told by a few tuners that software would not do this, that is why i wanted to do it

the tuners that told you that are lying to you... if they look they will find the tune...

all hardware mods need to be taken off before the car goes in so they dont cancel your MP

'standard' mods would be down pipe/decat and intercooler not sure what other cost effective mods there are on your car :) water meth would also be a great edition or alternative to a larger intercooler...

1 - Intake
2 - Decat/Downpipe
3 - Full exhaust
4 - Software
(5) - Intercooler upgrade optional.

That would be my advised order of mods. Though if you do carry out any of the mods listed from 1 through to 5 you will void your factory warranty with MINI/BMW.

Your car shares my motor... my pug... Stage 3+ software with a quite a few hardware mods. Was very reliable... 256BHP and no hassles... Only had timing slippage which is a manufacturer defect.

My stage 3+ pug is going to a new owner and still has no problems.

wow dude, thats awesome gains you have there!
What software are you running and supporting mods?

Software is from ETuners... Stage 3+... www.etuners.gr

Hardware mods as follows:
Forge cold air intake
Forge recirculating dump valve
Forge boost pipes
Forge oil catch can
All From www.forgemotorsport.co.uk
Seat Sport 1.8T front mount intercooler
Powerflow 63mm decat and full exhaust
Aquamist HFS2 WMI kit - www.aquamist.co.uk
Also the stock turbo has a bigger compressor wheel. Used a K04R wheel and had the turbo balanced...

We can also do an R56. We have done a few with good gains in the mid-range. We can do a trial for you on the dyno.
