Very crappy.....!!! people really are thoughtless and stupid. A simple contact note apologising and offering to sort out would have at least been the right thing to do...

I would do as many members have said first off - some polishing and such. To get the "white' marks off you could also try a bit of petrol to break it down first off and then a wash and polish. The beading as mentioned looks to have popped on its clips - so try press back. If that is marked badly then that corner piece could be replaced with a new one. I don't believe they will be too expensive.

If it not to your liking after then have it done professionally.

Just claim from insurance. Get a professional quote and have it done decently. It's an M5 after all; it deserves nothing but the best. Pay the excess and get it done.

If you're up to it, see if you can find out who the culprit was and pursue with the aim of getting the excess money back.

I fully agree with this approach and always do it with the X3.

BUT......before I am crucified here. What I do is go and park faaaaaaaar away on the other side of the parking area where there are no cars around and then walk a bit.

Now let me explain for those who wonder about why it is necessary to park across 2 parkings in I'm parked so far from everyone else.

Well hell, I don't know what the f33k it is with people but it has happened several times before doing the "park over 2 parkings thing" that I park so far away, come out and theres my car and one other KNOB who has parked right the F33K next to me. I mean seriously, they had the choice of 30 other parking spaces but park right next to me.

And yup, you guessed it more often than not, theres a little scuff where their door has been opened against my car. :RedNo:

So yeah, I don't feel in the slightest bit guilty anymore doing the double [arking number. Of course only if its not December shopping rush in which case I go in the Chevy Ute (Corsa) :rollsmile:

it just p1ss3s me off completely, my car (e39 530d) has quite a few of these little dents from some shit for brains opening their doors against mine.. mostly from before i owned the car...

its like people just dont give a shit!

one day im going to approach my car and see some dingbat knock their door against mine and i swear it will take all the self control not to give them a thorough backhand... I will make the person pay for the dent to be fixed, !@#!# insurance and such shit, they damage my property, they fix it. finished.

Terrible thing to happen...I agree, insist on video footage...on the bright side, your fender could've been worse. Try using Wenol on the fender scratch. You may only need to fix the bumper. Hope it all goes well.

Im a qualified spraypainter, using a 2000 wet/dry sand paper wont remove any layer of clearcoat on your car, its basically used to remove slight scuff marks or on freshly painted cars its used to remove dust before polishing. Just dont sand for hours trying to get the marks out because u will then sand through the clear, u should be able to sand it very lightly and the mark will come out and then use a Polish to shine up the dullness. Hope that helps abit [THUMBS UP SIGN]

I disagree with you but we dont need to agree. In fact your statement is indecisive as you start by saying 2000 grit wont remove any clear then follow on by saying that sanding for hours will remove the clear.....

fact: 200 grit can and will take away clear, how much depends on how hard and how long you use it.

If the scratch went through the clear coat the 2000 grit will start working on the paint.

That is why I said sand very lightly, it takes alot to sand through clear using a 2000grit sandpaper. Sanding in one spot for a long time, yes it will sand away the clear and going through would be highly possible. Afew swipes over some scuff marks wont do any damage, just dont think u going to be able to sand deep scartches out.
