I have a very similar problem on my F20 118i... started to happen just as the car was coming out of motor plan... went to BMW 3 times and they could not replicate the problem. On the third time they thought I was mad so to make me happy they re-did the software on the car.. the problem went away for a few days and still 3 months later the car feels like it has insane power by comparison but I still have he problem at least once a week.
Went on up country get away and decided to check oil before going and the car was bone dry on the dip stick... horrified as it had been at BMW a week before, I filled it up with oil and went on my 700km round trip without a single issue.
Since it has come back twice in the last 3 weeks but the car is due for an oil service in 2000km and will find a good Indi to give it a once over. Also want them to check the transmission fluid and fuel filter as according to the log print out from BMW neither of these had been looked at in he last 5 years / 100 000km...
Would love to know if you solve yours as it can help solving mine

Man that's bad, yeah i also thought your earning lights would come on, because of the oil? The car does not always have this problem of mine, but still annoying and can get dangerous. Oil light of mine came on, threw oil in and has another oil light. They told me to drain the oil and put in then. Also have break fluid to do now as well. Will post if I can get the solution to my problem.

Are you stomping on the accelerator pedal when this happens? Does it definitely feel like something is slipping or is it lag? On my 135i with the dct gearbox when overtaking and mashing foot to the floor it goes from 7th to 3rd gear and it takes a second or two where nothing happens and then all hel breaks loose.

No, no stomping or smashing it into the floor, just like putting foot down a little. It literally feels like my rim is spinning in the tyre, if that makes sense, like it slips and then the power comes in. Do you have turbo lag with your car? I heard these cars have a bit of a problem with the turbo sometimes.

wow you must be a driving god. Have you applied to F1 yet?
Anyway back to the car, you give virtually no proper explanation of what happens.
Is the car in manual mode when you try to overtake or is it in full automatic?
Does it only do this when you mash the throttle or does it do it all the time?
Does the car eventually pick up speed or does the transmission just slip to infinity and beyond without any real speed increase.
And so on and so forth.
Thank you for the piece of sarcasm. I know I didn't explain a lot, because it is hard to explain the problem. Like i mentioned earlier, it feels as if the tyre slips, almost as if the rim is slipping in the tyre, that type of feeling. And at the same time almost like it lags or the clutch slips, that's how it feels. Car is in full automatic most of the time. Car eventually picks up speed after 2 or 3 seconds and then it goes.
