If he's old, you're a fossil :roflol:
No seriously, I would also not go for the mini. Unless you're really longing for a toy... In that case go for JCW :fencelook:

BMW - Comfy, laid back, classy.
Mini - Hard, stiff, funky.
If I may compare with my E90 as I own a R53 and a E90 at present...
E90... feels like im driving while laying down in a Sealy Posturepedic bed. Steering is soft, car is soft, underrated. Puts a smile on anyday of the week and twice on a Saturday.
Mini - its just such a fun car to drive. It handles like its on rails. Dont get me wrong, the e9p handles well for its size. But the mini, ahh man, throw it into a corner, flat out, dsc off and you control that car into a spot. It goes there.. its a love hate relationship though. I love the nippyness. I love the sounds it makes. I hate the hard clutch and steering. Stiff gears. But do I smile each time I drive, yes.
They totally different in nature. Theres no comparison. If I was in your situation, it depends on mang factors. The mini is no all rounder. Dont expect to load and go on holiday. As a second car, run around, they outperform themselves. But not a family car. The boot is terrible. My laptop bag, lunch bag and daughters school bag fills it up.
The back seats are pointless. Im not tall yet with my seat in a comfy position, nobody can sit behind me.
As a second car, go for it. But dont let your e46 go. Unless you single...

Dude, from all the cars I've owned, the Mini got me the most female attention. Chicks will come and chat to me about the car.
Once we were at Zwartkops for a track day and 2 buddies usd the car to go buy us food. They only got back 3 hrs later cause they met chicks that wanted to ride in the Mini. I never got to track it that day.
