Should I keep my 330d?

If your heart yearns for that engine & exhaust note, and fuel consumption isn't a concern, get the x35i or x40i. That noise, feeling and response is 2nd to none.

330d is just a brilliant all rounder..

but for interest sake what would you ask for if you sold privately? ballpark?

Car looks super clean and it appears you've owned it since new - in which case the value you is obviously very high because you know every nook and cranny of it.

I'd keep it, save a bit over the next year and get a weekend petrol engined toy? For the sound and the driving experience.

If you're really set on it and if it's not going to have a substantial adverse effect your financial condition, then change. You're right about that engine note and the feeling you get from a weapon in the form a m135 or m235. I've had my m135i for over a year now and I'm already feeling sad knowing that I'll sell him one day. Forget fuel consumption; it's not that bad. I get around 10l-11l/100km in normal driving in urban areas. I've kept mine stock and after fitting the mpe, I look forward every single time to driving it. After a long ass day at work, it's the best place to be: quiet cool evening, sunroof open, and sport mode engaged.

On the other hand, if you do this out of just an itch, think twice. You have an amazing car, one that I've had an itch about in recent times, even while driving my m135. Ride it out and see how it goes. Your trade/retail value should flatten out now and maybe in a year's time, you can switch to 6 cylinder petrol utopia. .

Get yourself an older 3.0 6pot beemer for the sound. I love to drive my e30 just for the sound of the six silinder.

Wow thanks for all the replies everyone!

To be honest, I'm considering this just because I'm itching for something different (as many of you have said). The thing I want most is the growl the x35i's make on a cold start - it put a smile on my face every morning when I had my 335i.

What's difficult for me to swallow is the amount of value I will lose. A new 330d like this isn't that far from R800k, and with my car being in the condition it is I think it should be worth at least half that. I can afford the x35i's (actually had finance approved on an M235i) and the fuel consumption isn't really a big deal to me, but to pay hundreds of thousands of rands for a car that sounds cooler is pretty crazy if you think about it.

So after all the feedback from everyone, here's what I'm going to do. Instead of buying an M series car now, I will save up for a proper M in a couple of years.

In the mean time, I will enjoy this amazing car and save even more money on fuel. When I bought the 330d it was the best car I've ever owned (even after the 335i) and nothing has changed really. I've just got this crazy itch to scratch :hammerhead:

Keep the 330D, I have a 2015 330D Performance edition (PPK) and the 135's and 335's don't get away from me.

Yes the sound is KAK but when you start filling that X35i every week then you will miss that 330D.

I would keep it and do downpipe/free flow and Software and coil overs (Bilstein, 16k all round with H&R springs)

then that car is a killer.

So today I was taking a drive for the usual errands. I had the sunroof opened and just cruising. Then I saw a whole bunch of green robots ahead so I opened my e46 330d. I've got a 76mm downpipe and I've deleted the back box. The sound wasn't loud but it was very satisfying. I say straight pipe your one. If it's too loud add one performance box. They do sound really good with the right exhaust.

Js finished another f30 330d remap...God save me- the f30 330d itch is biting hard...the 330d esp woth sport box is so insane with just a remap. Trust me- a remap alone will give you what you want out of the car. Downpipe and exhaust and some RK peri peri will give you the tone you yern for... diesel FTW!!!

You say your car is worth "less than half" of a new 330d. With I assume is just under R400k?

I saw a 2013 330d msport with 68000 km this week for R305 000.

If you really set in selling, and if you can get anything more than R350k for your car, take it!

Thanks! I'm leaning towards doing at least the exhaust post-motorplan!

The dealers wanted to give me R270k for ot 3 or 4 months ago, I guess that's down to R250k now. If I sell it privately I really doubt I'd get more than R350k. So yeah that's why I'm keeping it

Especially the sound was intoxicating compared to my current tractor.

Try to find someone who has a decent freeflow exhaust on a 330d to listen to - they sound pretty good without or smallish silencers. My (ex) E90 330d used to have a freeflow which had a nice deep growl.

Hate to be a party pooper on the 1/235i, but remember that some of that sound is artificially created.

I'd say keep the 330d, mod it after MP and have some fun that way. Not a replacement for a petrol 6, but a close 2nd when modded properly.

I agree , great car , strong motor and with a mod exhaust great sound note:thumbs:

Don't play, R250k? Cheeky bstrds. Keep it.

There was an ad on this forum recently for a 2012 125i for around that price which I thought was reasonable.

Your cab should get at least R330k. Otherwise tell them pss off and enjoy what you have.
