S/w on 320i give it 167kw and 350Nm, done already overseas....
Yhooo!!!

So what's the max that I can get out of a E90 320d?

The F30 also has the 8 speed auto box, which makes a huge difference too compared to the E90. So it's not just about the engine output any more.

Hold on a second, the pricing in the article is completely wrong, as the BMW should be priced at +- R400K, if it is an auto with sport line. Someone at IOL motoring is smoking some good stuff.

THe article does mention that the A4 is still comparable. It is however the BMW that is a completely new model line and the A4 which is a just a facelift.

I think a more favourable comparison is the E90 Facelift 320i vs the facelifted A4.

The BMW does win because it is the newer technology model, and the A4 is not outclassed even though it is an older generation car.

I'm happy when a BMW wins a test, but sometimes I dont like to have this feeling  around when I know they comparing two different generation models.

Correct ASH , F30 Manual Modern Line is 367k , Auto with Sport is above 400k

Test drove the F30 320i extensively and I will admit there worlds are completely different to the E90 320i.

The only fault i could find on the F30 was that its boost dies off very quickly but even with that said , Wow what a car !

Sing... did u test drive the 328i................?

hahhaha

Yep on this past Monday I had the privilege of getting into this monster. As you guys know im shopping for 335i but was told to test drive the 328i for a day and get back to them. Well this is my verdict.

The F30 328i is definitely under quoted in terms of it power delivery IMO. The car is sharp and precise even under full load. The Balance off the car is exceptional in any term put out there. It feels as if its lazy but its actually not , its just refined proper in every manner.

My first instinct was this is no where as fast as a E90 335i but got to measure these two machines performance head to head.

Test Subject : E90 LCI 335i - N54 vs F30 328i , both stock

With the sales guy in the 335i and me in the F30. E90 gets off the block fairly quickly but I would say well into the 250m mark is when the F30 comes alive and catches up to the E90 , further past the 600m mark , the F30 is around 1 car ahead. Further into the 1km mark , the F30 holds the gap. We tested a few scenarios which included rolling runs in DS mode and the F30 328i always came out tops in the performance department.

What we did notice is the traction light seemed far more happier in the E90 335i as opposed to the F30 328i , possibly the above results.

If i had to choose at this current stage. I would say F30 328i , it just feels like the car is a different animal waiting to be unleashed. Sport Line just does not do it for me , ///M styling is the one that gets my attention and I feel it would be a perfect combo to the F30 328i motor

my two cents worth

Long live the 328i, always loved it!

Sad to see the demise of the the 330i badge, but I guess the way things move forward with the new models, is now there is a F30 328i which will give the E9x 335i a hard time, only god knows what software would do to this new 328i beast!

this is where the argument for Fwd falls flat... did BMW have to go Fwd to compete?

NO they just had to build a car with enough power and improve the interior...

No compromises here and its cheaper than the audi also... BMW do not need to sell their soul to make money they make money because they have Soul and Rwd is part of this...

I'm also considering the 328i.... Will wait fir the ///M sports pact first.... Another good alternative would be the 125i.... If u dont need the space.

Have to agree with Ash here:fencelook:. Why compare the 320i with the A4 1.8T, it should be compared to the 2.0T and here the Audi will take the win (155kw) and yes pricing is totally incorrect the 1.8T goes for R350 000 while the 155kw 2.0T goes for R390 000. Sorry guys but if I had to choose between 320i and A4 2.0T it will be the Audi hands down!

Hey Dusty you are 100% correct, that one also slipped past me, that they should be comparing the A4 2.0T to the 320i (now boosted), thanks for pointing that out, in that regard the BM is 20kw and alot of torques short on the performance front, the 155kw engine in the 2.0T is a gem of a motor.

Apples definitely have be compared with apples!

The minute you start throwing extras into the Audi to match the BMW equipment, you go well over 400k, which is 328i territory.
