shocks for e39

Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can get the OEM SACHS shocks for an e39 530d?
I really don't want to spend R12000 for them at the dealer. I can only source the 540 fronts and the e60 fronts and rears from local aftermarket suppliers. Also does any know if the e60 front and rears would fit the e39? The front strut mounts are the same part, so i'm thinking they should fit. The rears have different mounts so not so sure there.

And yes, I have fitted gabriels and bilsteins, both of which are too harsh and dont last very long.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Regards,
Llewellyn

sounds like you have some very harsh road conditions... tell me more about the car and conditions

I see that ZF are selling Sachs clutches, etc. Could be they have shocks as well. Do you have a ZF agency in Nam?

Thanks guys.
Conditions are about the same as in SA. Except for the major national roads. I replaced the originals with gabriels, which lasted about 60000kms. Then replaced with bilsteins, which only lasted about 20000kms and were replaced under warranty. The current set are the warranty replacement bilsteins which have also crapped out after about 15000kms. I have spoken to guys at ACMC for the sachs units but the wait is 4-6 weeks. Will definitely order from them if I cant source goods for immediate availability.

I have contacted ZF, and there are agents here, but they unfortunately don't have a clue about zf or sachs products.

Road conditions aren't that harsh, but not the best either. That's why i prefer the sachs units, as they;re were designed to soak up the harshness with ease, better than how the bilsteins or gabriels cope.
The car is in fantastic shape, has about 240000kms, a 2001 530d. zero water and oil consumption, excellent overall condition. front and rear suspension have been done. just need good shocks, and it'l be good as new.

Bilsteins only lasting that little? :thumbdo:

Horrible i know. Could be down to faulty installation too.

dont really see how bilstein failed under normal use they can be a bit harsher than some alternatives but handling is great and they do last... did the shocks bottom out?

Koni is also worth a look they are generally very smooth and the FSD range is super smooth :)

Im not sure if it bottomed out, but at the moment it is horrible to drive. I'm not much of a speedster, i used to be with e36 323i, 325i and 328i before upgrading to 530d for a more comfortable ride. i had a look at the fsd set, and looks promising. can you supply these?

full set of FSD R 11,065 so not much of a price difference compared with the BMW items but these will deliver a much smoother ride

Koni STR.T will be smoother than the Bilsteins you have but not as silky like the FSD:
Front R 3680 a pair
Rear R 2530 a pair

you need to be sure they fit bump stops when they do the shocks this will prevent them from bottoming out :)

ouch. if cash wasn't a problem i'd definitely go for the fsds. acmc has the complete sachs set in stock for under R4k, so i will be ordering those soon.

thank you to everyone for assisting. much appreciated!
