Shocks E46 Sportspack

Help...

At teh last rotation of my tyres I noticed a leaking rear shock...The tyre fitment place quoted me R2200 for 4 including fitment but wasn't sure if they had the right shock for my sports suspension. A check with another outlet indicated that they don't supply shocks for the factory sports suspension and can only be obtained from BMW. Anyone with some insight?

that is correct afaik, the sportpack shocks are shorter than normal shocks, and no aftermarket supplier makes them. so they can only be had from BMW themselfs..

Try a Midas...I got a quote from Midas in Claremont for Munroe shocks for the E46 sportspack R1700 another Midas quoted me R1600 something for Gabriel....I think they call it the E-shock or something

BMW quoted me R3500 per shock in the front and R1300 each for the rear....

Four sportspack shock at BMW is about R10k so that quote sounds about right.

Yes R10k...but thats about 20% the value of the car....surely there must be an aftermarket option

If you really just want new shocks get those from Midas or where ever, the sportspack ones are only 2-3 cm shorter so wouldn't make a huge difference unless you always drive like your ass is on fire. :rollsmile:

I got a e36 with a 40mm drop, stealers quoted me 2.5K per front shock.... the service agent at BMW advised me that its not worth paying that amount for shocks, rather put an aftermarket make like Monroe or Gabriel

The sportspack has a 10mm drop. It would be nice to keep that look, not interested in actual handling as it is only a 318i

Shocks don't determine ride height, the springs do so fitting 10mm longer shocks won't change the ride height.

Yup R2.5k/ea for front struts...you can get Gabriel fronts for around R1.8k.

no it wont change the ride height, but you do run the risk of bottoming the shock, which is why sportpack shocks are shorter to start with.. you decide..

correcto, it is always recommended to use a shorter shock with shortened springs to avoid this.
