discussion Shell Oil, not so hot!

There is a guy by the name of Sergiu Gabor on YouTube that tests oils.

He is not affiliated to any company and tests many brands.....

Interesting observation: Shell oil has never won any of his comparisons. It came last in a few comparative tests

Ravenol and Motul won a lot of the comparisons.

Even Castrol Edge fared better than Shell,

I think then the reason for BMW going to shell might have little to do with performance .

Anyone with links on Shell Oil’s performance tests (BMW specifically)....

Motul is a winner and has good local support from the sounds of it. I have seen the difference vs. Liqui Moly in my Subaru. The reason I have stuck with BMW oil thus far is that I change oil on the M5 every 7500km anyway and it is not raced etc. I am probably going with Motul for the next change (what Sherwin mentioned they are using in their fastest F10).

I have no doubt that Motul is superior under harsher conditions and in terms of actual protection. That being said for 'normal' use I don't think it is going to make your motor explode/grenade. I guess the question is would it make the motor last an extra 100000 or 150000km if the oil was of a different quality or changed more frequently (and I think most of us already know the answer here).

My feeling is that this was more of an advertising/sponsorship deal from motorsport that went deeper to the point that they were being 'recommended' by BMW. I am sure the 'power' of having Shell or Castrol moulded into the oil filler cap is worth hundreds of millions if not billions of euros since there are those guys who will never question the wisdom or quality of an approved product or brand. I think they are probably 'good enough' in the context of the millions of repmobile cars BMW sells and perhaps the high performance models pay the price down the road when it is no longer BMWs problem.

Shell is at least available. Customer service is "incredible" <koff> at Ravenol.

I was on their site at Ravenol. Said I can email them on anything. Wanted to stockpile maybe 2 years worth of oil and asked if they sell direct or on takealot.co.za.
Gave poor reviews because they ignored my emails and not looking in spam folders. Ravenol replies and says that I must state my problem on email. They proceeded to tell me to email the same email that they ignored in the first place. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

At least Shell is right there on the shelf at Goldwagen.

Based on scientific unbiased tests: Motul came out tops alternating with Ravenol.

I have never used them, always used Castrol and now BMW oil (Shell).

I think Motul is available at various outlets including Midas....would love to try it for the sake of it.

Their brake fluid is also good.. Used the 5.1 on both cars and bikes and have no complaints.
Have also done a few cars with the RBF660 and also works well, but is more track focused fluid.
I also have their BMW approved Anti Freeze
