I will swing by autozone on my way home today to get some oil.

All I need is 7L of 5w40 Helix Ultra ?

Is a fuel and diesel filter the same thing? There is only one part code at BMW for all E90 models...

Yulz you not helping my situation with your comments about the fair price of parts. I'm really trying hard not to go get another 320d.

Yep, you only need 6.5l so there's always a little left over from each service unless you manage to get a 5 litre and 3 500ml bottles which I never managed to get.

Yeah the fuel filter is the same thing. It's an aluminium cylindrical cartridge.

Yeah i mean seriously tho epic engines and they probably make more torque than the average 3.0L (or bigger) 6 cylinder N/A petrol engines at half the fuel economy

Oil changed.
Oil filter replaced.
Fuel filter replaced.
Air filter replaced.

All in all it took me about 2 hours to complete. The most difficult thing was removing the moerse panels under the car to get to the fuel filter.

The tricky thing was to keep the car on the jack while I removed the covers to place the 'bokkies' so it doest not just rest on the jack while I am working on it.

Let them send an overview of what work needs to be done and pricing.

I think that dtcs reset will make up the majority of that bill.

Do the brakes yourself and let them do the oil service.

Yep my 320d made the same torque as my current 3.6 V6. I would love another 320d as a daily, and keep my dodge as the family car.

Im guessing the dildo looking box contains the filter.

In my oppinion you didnt overpay on those filters. BMW filters are supperior to other brands, and Ill pay a premium for them any day.

Watch this video:

Also, just wanted to comment on some conflicting info Ive been seeing in this thread. One person is saying 7L of oil, other person is saying 6.5L?

I recently serviced my LCI 320d at Ross Duncan (I realize you have a pre LCI), and Ross only used 5.5L oil?

Can someone state the correct values of engine oil required for the:
1. Pre LCI E90 320d
2. LCI E90 320
3. F30 320d

Nice thread.

(off topic...I see the diesel filter is at the same place still as where the petrol filter on my 1998 318is's was!)

Howzit bud

I suggested getting the MANN filter as they are the OE manufacturers for BMW. Nothing superior about buying from BMW in that case. On any other generics then yes I agree.

I also have a LCI, and 6.5L of oil was used, checked the dipstick and it was at the recommended level.
This was also the amount that BMW told me to use however on my first service when I purchased oil from them, they only had it in 1L bottles hence purchasing 7L but only actually using 6.5L.

Hmm, there seems to be quite a discrepency in regards to the amount of oil that should be used.

I just phoned BMW JSN, and gave them my VIN number. For a 2011 BMW 320d LCI model you have to use 5.2L of oil, according to them. :fencelook:

I filled with 6.5L in my 2008 320d.

My oil level on the obd now reads as follows:

[====== ]
MAX

Nice thread!!

The oil question....I have a 2011 320d LCI and it took 5.5L of Shell Ultra 5w40 and dipstick on max. 2 weeks later, dipstick on max. BMW Somerset West told me approx 5.2 - 5.7L

Anyway, just some info. I also did a full service approx 1 month ago.

Diesel filter, Oil filter, Air filter, Micro Filter (which is not micro at all), oil and Brake pads front and rear.

Everything took me approx 3.5 hours and was very easy to do, for those wondering.

Checked loads of online stuff before hand and I built a turbo kadett back in the day, so felt confident.

I bought all my parts from Gold Wagen, excellent service received and cost me a total of I think 3.5k or just under 4k

Just a note on the Front break pads for my LCI model. It uses the same pads as the 335i. All the books they had kept giving me the smaller pads which didnt fit, eventually I took my pads to Masterparts and they checked them and brought me the 335i pads.
