Service indicator

Hi all. A friend of mine has an E90 320d and he has 99510km on the clock. The problem is his service indicator says he has 1500km to go the next oil service and the service light has not gone on yet. So normally agents allow you 1500km before and after the service time to take your car in but the agents told him they will not do anything until the service light comes on. So should he just take the car in and hope for the best or at what distance from the required service does the light come on? All I can find searching the net is how to reset the service light. Not when it comes on.

The only reason why they want to wait until the service light comes on is that they don't want it to come on after he's booked it in and have him come back for it. Because that will give him an impression that they didn't change the oil. So they actually want to do the oil change & service light reset together at once.

If it's still under MP, let him wait until it comes on & book it in immediately. If not, he can do what I do, buy the required oil & oil filter, change the oil & filter, and reset the service light when done after it comes on.

Drive it extremely hard for the next 300km. Service indicator will be under 1000km and the service light should come on.
Just my 2c

I don't think you can reset the service light before it even comes on... Or can you?

You can reset the service light before it comes on.

Tell him to go to the dealership and ask to speak to the service manager and explain the sitution.

Depending on the dealership they may be willing to help.
