Service costs??

I was just wondering what the service costs for different models. So I thought it could be a good idea to have some members post the model and year of they're car and what they're last service cost them, what was all replaced and done to the car, and where they had the service done.

I'll go first:
1991 318i E30
Parts:
Oil filter, Petrol filter, air filter, x4 spark plugs, and new oil.
Total cost was about R650 for the parts and I did the work myself.

I'll be using Auto Works in Strand for now on for anything that I can't do myself as the service looks very good there. They are right next to the N2, so not to far to drive.

EDIT: Maybe a sticky?

Oil Service BMW:
(Whatever they do there...) - R800

Inspection Service BMW:

Oil - Shell Helix Ultra 10W40 (BMW LL01 approved, if thats important to you) Montague Gardens Midas
Oil Filter - Mann (Was in a Fram box, Fram part number) Montague Gardens Midas
Air Filter - Mann (Was under GUD listing and had GUD sticker on the box) Goldco - Brackenfell

Mann make OEM for BMW, so if you can find them at your local parts store, even under the guise of GUD or Fram, its the same as buying OEM.
I have a theory that currently there isnt a high enough demand in this country for Fram or GUD to actually manufacture E46 filters so they import the Mann ones from Germany at a cheaper price than they could currently manufacture them,...then again, maybe I'm wrong and I just got lucky.

Total cost for oil and filters: R600-00
No idea on plugs as I havent changed them yet.

Damn...R600 for an air filter, oil filter and 5L of oil?

Can I be so bold as to ask how much each item was?

Oil was R300-00
Air Filter was R210-00
Oil Filter was R90-00

Must be honest, did not shop around, either phoned, or popped into a place I was close to, and if they had what I wanted, I bought it.
So if anyone knows where I can get anything cheaper, I'd be obliged if you would share.

The only thing I honestly thought was a bit over the top, was the air filter, but once you see one, it kinda explains itself, its not a panel filter, it actually looks a lot like a cone filter, but its paper and is housed in the OEM filter housing, (which you have to remove in order to open), and the MAF plugs straight into the bottom of the filter itself,....strangest setup I've seen in a standard filter yet.

Hi Pops

That does seems a little high for the air filter. Maybe just try giving BMW a call...you may well be suprised at the cost... I used to buy GUD from Midas at a cost of R128, but decided to just randomly check BMW's prices one day. Their OEM filter cost R68 :)

Is this what you air filter looks like?
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=AY72&mospid=47632&btnr=13_0948&hg=13&fg=20

That is definately different from mine, which is the panel type.

The oil filter seems about right...I think the one from BMW is about R105

The cost of the oil is WAY too high! Shell Helix Ultra 10W40 (blue bottle) at my Midas is R169 with the Castrol Magnatex 10W40 costing R199. Did you just need one 5L bottle or did you buy 2?

Correct on the filters there, pops! Mann filters = BMW filters! Just always check prices from the agents as well, you might be pleasantly surprised! They are on a major drive, so sometimes the MANN's they sell are cheaper than MIDAS, and co! About that oil, I would get hold of Mike@liquimoly for better synthetic oil

Yip, thats the air filter, the oil is not the blue bottle, its the grey/silver bottle, the synthetic one,... just thinking about it, it may be 5w-40 and not 10w-40, will check when I get home.
Thanks for the tip on checking BMW filter prices, will check with them next time I service the car.
