Hi guys,

I read alot of posts on E46fanatics about a product called seafoam.

Apparently its spayed into the intake , causes alot of smoke, but cleans out everything.
This is done before a service coz it requires the oil to be changed after.

Do we have a similar product in SA?

have you by any chance read all the bad experiences people have posted about after using it as well?

I also looked at this stuff, and yes there are similar products available locally, but I think its almost like gambling with your car, it either works well, or it causes some serious damage.

I am not willing to take that chance with my car thank you very much.

Or you can just use a TUV approved (laboratory tested by a 200 year German Institute) Engine Flush from Liqui Moly which only takes 10 minutes and does no harm at all.

seafoam is different to engine flush though mike, you spray it into your intake and its supposed to clean all the deposits from the valves and cylinders.

I have just heard some horror stories about rings collapsing and all sorts of other problems.

Well then there is confusion as the OP mentioned its used before Oil changes...

We either way... For petrol:

Liqui Moly Injector Cleaner

For Diesel:

Liqui Moly Anti Knock - Injector cleaner and Cetane booster for diesel... Ohh the results this product gives. I force diesel owners to buy this :spit:

Forget snowfoam. Use the above products and you are sorted :thumbsup:

I see why its used before oil changes...

But you could just use the standard Liqui Moly Fuel additives and get the same results.... Bloody Americans...

Seafoam has actually been around since the 60s, and was used on the big V8s in the day. It then kind of disappeared of the scene, but was recently re-launched.

I havent read any horror stories after using it,
Only read good stuff about it.

But you seem to know what you talking about so will take your word for it.

Any other products that you know of that will be safe to use?

Also, i need to know what a E46 valve cover gasket costs and where to get it cheap?
Was going to post another tread, but figure i could just ask here if you guys know.
Would a good autoshop keep it, or is it available from dealers only?

I'm quite a newbie so still learning.

I think the gasket set from the dealer runs just over R1k odd, I need to replace mine, its dripping oil onto my exhaust manifold.

I need one too, Mines is leaking oil into the spark plug housings.

ooo yes, you need it urgently then, that can stuff up your coils resulting in MUCH more money spent.

I just called BMW Autoglen,

The guy on the phone called it the tappet cover gasket.
Is it the same as a Valve cover gasket?

Quoted at +- R580 incl VAT

Sweet, i already asked for a discout, he said they could give 15%.
Need to get it this weekend.

Its a very straight forward DIY, I would rate about 4/10 for difficulty. I will be doing this myself as well, I cant bring myself to pay someone else to do it after seeing the DIY.
