Hi guys,

Some of you may know about Bruce (THUNDER)'s BMW e36 318i that has had some engine problems. Those of you who have been on this forum and attended some of the meets will know Bruce as a really caring guy who is totally committed to this forum. He has gone out of his way time and again to help members and this forum. He's done it constantly without wanting any kind of reward in return. Well, now is time for Karma to pay back.

Bruce's car has unfortunately had a catastrophic failure. He did not have the money to fix the car and tried to do the work himself. Unfortunately, the engine was too far gone. Bruce then decided to part the car out and try make some money back, but we all know he loves his car and getting rid of it was like tearing his own heart out.

It is too sad to watch a fanatic like Bruce struggle alone and practically give his pride and joy away.

So...

We have found a donor engine, and Peter (A1exander) has offered to rebuild Bruce's engine for us using the parts we source. Indecently, Gizmo has donated some pistons and rods and other members such as Colin (HerrBMW) have offered help in the form of towing, or helping move parts such as the engine etc. Ram3on has many e36 spares that he is willing to donate, but that being said, I wanted to form a list so that I can manage people involved. I will also post the budget we are looking at achieving and how much we have raised.

If you wish to Donate towards this cause, please post your name on here and state what you wish to donate. If it is MONEY, please do not put the amount. You can PM me and Thunder the amount.

I am still discussing with Thunder where the money should go, either to his account or a separate account made for this build. That way we can manage what comes in and what goes out. No sneaky ANC tenders allowed here. :fencelook:

So... if you have any spare e36 Parts lying about that you are willing to donate, please post below and we'll add you to the list. If you have R100 or R1000 that you can offer, please mention below that you wish to offer some funding. Then PM myself and Thunder the amount and we will arrange to get it from you or send you bank details.

There are other members who said they are willing to help but they have not said how they can. To be honest, we could use more financial backing to fund the buying of parts such as gaskets, piston rings, oil filters and oil etc.

So far we have had very generous donations and are standing on a total of R5700

We also have many pms on parts needed so here is the list.(Not sure about the part names but added part numbers to the ones we could find)

As stated, I will update this post with how much we actually need.

As of now we need money for the following.

1. Complete Cylinder head (I have sourced one. We need to acquire it).

2. Piston rings, Gaskets, oils etc.

3. Any engineering work that the engine block may require. Honing etc.

Bruce is a very humble guy and I know he appreciates this from the heart. I just cannot go to another Fanatic's meet without seeing the Witch there.

Shaun I would think that the engine will require roughly R6k parts and engineering however we still need to source the head and see what condition everything is in before we commit to an amount.

As soon as we have sourced a head and know that we have a "complete" motor we shall proceed with the engineering assessment and parts requirement.

At a rough guess I would say that we will need the following:

Big ends R300
Mains R300
Chains R300
Oil pump R500
Gasket set R1500
Rings R400
Water pump R400
Belts R350
Stretch Bolts R300

Engineering R4000

Above thumb suck figures.

In addition we may require a clutch kit R2000

We will finalise requirements and post accordingly.

p.s. I still need to visit Gizmo to see what I can steal from his vast parts store

I haven't yet physically met any of the Fanatics (which will change this weekend at our "Last days of summer" run), but judging by those I've "met" on the forum over the last few months, this does seem to be somewhat of a family... Please put me down for a financial contribution.

An M50 I6, that we do not know what exactly is wrong with it, but it has heads, cams ect.

has a couple to an auto gearbox, which sucks, but I am sure you use the existing gearbox with just a front nose change.

Well if that is the car, i have a 520 that I would like to donate the engine bits for, complete with DME and harness and practically everything.

Now this you can have, I do not want money for it...

Time on my side however is money as i am always busy, hence my projects so far behind, perhaps peter should come take a look at the motor and see where w can go from there to an inline 6.
