Thanks chaps,

I also did the wheels, but it was when the wheels were off the car and went for a respray, I say respray because I wouldn't call the end result a refurb.
I used the valet pro, dragons breath, washed, clayed and waxed while off the car....

Sadly I did not take any pictures, but I will probably do this process in the near future as I plan to clean the arches as well.

After a few thousand kms of driving this vehicle with the stock wheels, I think the OBC is too optimistic. There are cases where the car says the average over a tank is 6.8 but calculating it using fuel and km gives a whopping 7.4. Now i expect the OBC to be optimistic, but that a heck of alot.

I read up on this and found that BMW uses a parameter to assist in these calculation and it can be changed. I have since changed the value on both my cars and will see what the impact is over the next tank or so.

If the difference is noticeable and accurate then I will document the process for those interested.

Not a fan of the stripes, I would have plastidipped the kidney grills black instead.

Are you surprised your fuel usage on your modern BMW is nowhere close to the manufacturer specs? Its a lie to sell cars, plain and simple. On older BMWs you could calibrate the lt/100km if it was out.
Im sure it's possible but not DIY, will need a computer to do it on modern BMWs.

Very nice car and good job on the detailing

You say the 530d F10 was not so impressive? Please eloborate as i have been eying it as my next vehicle. I have driven the 520d F10 and it was a very good drive so i assumed the 530 would be better

I always thought of the X1 as Ugly, But gotta admit with the M-Sport kit and in white it does look the part.
Whats the drive like compare to the E60?

I am biased due to my modded E60 530d lol. Seriously, to compare a stock F10 non Msport, to my modded E60 Msport would not be fair, but it felt lazy, and just too cushy for my liking..., again me being biased.

When the time is right, I will test drive a F10 530d Msport, maybe a modded one and really know the difference.

Honestly was not expecting it to stand out as much as it does, the design of the grill shows alot more of it. My wife doesnt want me to do anything else to it.., but we shall see.

Regarding the consumption, I'm not comparing to the claimed consumption in adverts, but rather the OBC and my calculations... but if i consider BMW claims.... 5.0L/100km, vs 6.8L/100km OBC vs 7.4L/100km actual calculation.

You can can the way the calculation is done via the hidden menu, which is what i have done, but will only know the effect after a tank.

I never took a second look at them, until I sat in one, definitely a baby X but has its perks. In some respects, it is clear that BMW wanted to cut corners on this model, from the optional climate control, the clunky doors, even the way the outer door handles sound is just different to the E60.

It would be difficult to compare the two, considering they are on different ends of the spectrum. Some of the differences between the two to note:
X1 is on runflats vs E60 non-runflats
X1 is on 45/40 profile vs E60 on 35 profile
X1 is 8spd vs E60 which is 6spd

Driving the X1 in traffic is an absolute pleasure, mainly due to the 8spd box, higher seating position and low down torque. I find the comfort is better, but theres that annoying uncomfortable feeling when going over rough roads where the tyres seem to not want to absorb the bumps and the suspension is saying this road is too bouncy for me to absorb it all. It seems to me like it is a combination of the run-flats, the stiffer msport suspension as well as tyre pressure. I am curious to see if it disappears with normal tyres, but for now i am playing with pressures whenever i do drive it and can compare.

Theres a difference i the steering feel, where the E60 feels more direct, compared to the X1 which sometimes feels a little more out of touch, but not enough to complain. If i was driving the X1 all the time, I would not complain, the comparison is only felt because i might drive both cars in one day.

Theres definitely a difference in terms of the turbos, where the E60 is the older version and X1 is the twin power version. The torque at lower revs would give similar powered vehicles( non BMW) a good run.

When comparing the gearboxes, by the time the older 6spd decides ..., ok i am going to lock the torque convertor at this throttle and put the power down, the 8spd has already been accelerating for half a second longer, so the 8spd feels faster at low revs.

While the E60 might have more boot space, the X1 has more flexibilty in terms of folding seats and that comes in handy more often the bigger boot space.

Lastly, I have to say the standard sound on the X1 kills the standard sound, so BMW improved that over the years. THe E60 had just the 4in on doors, as well as rear parcel shelf and the underseat mids, while the X1 has the 4in splits in the front, 4in mids on the rear shelf, underseat midwoofers

After seeing the post about the ZF service special I couldn't ignore it. I was planning on doing the service later on, considering that the vehicle only has 110k km.

Spoke to Hardus on the phone to confirm my appointment for 7am, yes, they open at 7am, when i got to the workshop at 7:05am, the guys were already working on other cars and not, you know, having breakfast at 7 and I'll start with your car when I'm done.

The car was pulled onto the ramp and the first thing that Hardus says to me, will differentiate this workshop from almost any other, he asks you to look at your car on the ramp as its a view most owners dont have the privilege of doing. Its a good way for looking at other prospective issues that may arise in the future. I had a good look at the rubbers, mounts, shocks and just the general cleanliness under the car.

Hardus read the codes and nothing stood out, or was an issue, but still went through the effort of explaining codes which many places don't do. The explanation of the adaptation values and millibars and milliseconds, though complex helps one understand these gearboxes better. In my case the one clutch was just out of spec, but seeing that the vehicle lived most of its previous owners life in traffic, it was pretty much on par.

We even went into detail about the clutch packs on this gearbox where the technical manuals were brought out, again, most shops wont divulge this info. We were surprised at how dirty the oil was, but the analysis showed no metal fillings or objects to be concerned about. This was attributed to the amount of time the vehicle spends in traffic and his suggestion was to do the oil service more regularly on a vehicle that sees more traffic.

The other points that stands out about my visit is the cleanliness of the workshop, even though they work with so much of oil, the cleaning of the gearbox once opened and the work ethic of all the staff I had the pleasure of dealing with.

I also got to meet KidB, who just happened to decide to his gearbox service as well, so we had a good chat during my time there as well.

My adaptations were not reset, so its not like there would a noticeable difference in my gear changes, but there wasn't any issues that the service was supposed to solve. I am curious to know how much of an impact dirty oil has on the function of the mechatronics and clutches, so on the next oil change I want to see how the values change.

Nothing much has changed, have tried to keep it clean as much as possible.

But noticed the wheels get absolutely and ridiculously dirty in such a short space of time.

If the car is not washed every week, the wheels look more graphite grey than silver.

So after reading a thread on here about a product that one applies to the wheels to make it easier to clean, I was intrigued.

Did some reading and found a product by autoglym at crazydetailer.

The kit comprises of the sealant in aerosol can, wheel cleaner and tyre dressing.

The car was washed a day ago and put into the garage and while videos of the application of this product show one just spraying it on a washed wheel on the car and wiping excess spray of the wheel..... I am a bit more of a perfectionist and turned an hour job into half day job.

I chose to remove the wheels, clean the entire wheel, decontaminate, mask of the tyre in front and spray.

I followed the process below of each wheel

Cleaned with apc, rinse
Spray on iron x, leave for a bit, agitate, rinse
Clean with apc again, rinse.

I did the first wheel, the iron remover took out the majority.

The spraying was the easy part but the wheel had to be completely dry.

The front took a little extra effort as I wanted to not spray anything on the tyre.

Wow looks like an awesome product.. I am very keen to see how it holds up.

Brake dust on the 335i is a disaster :hammerhead:
