Runflat advice please

Hi guys, I'm looking to get a new set of wheels (mags and tyres) in a couple of months and would like to hear your take on changing from runflats to normal tyres. I know I would have to get the spare wheel. Would that be the only issue going from runflats to normal tyres?

I have heard that a "normal" tyre has a softer/more comfortable ride than a RFT due to more flexibility in the side wall.

I have normal tyres and I'm loving the ride quality on my car and its not so harsh and unforgiving.

from what I have read here on the forums, is that the portion of MP that deals with tyres/brakes/suspension will be negatively affected...ie they will try to prove and refuse a claim if it can be blamed on the use of normal tryes over RFT's, but it would be difficult to blame such items as battery or injectors etc on non-RTF usage.

i had run flats on my 323i exclusive,normal ride height and didnt find it harsh or hard

now part of the deal getting the 330d was me removing my rims and tyres and putting on the 330d,due to the fact it didnt have run flats on,and the car was still under motor plan which then wouldve made it null and void,bmw agreed with me

now i was expecting a more harder and harsh ride with the motorsport suspension and to be honest havent noticed a difference,feels a little bit stiffer,but not as bad as people were making it out to be.

would i still use run flats again? yes,worth every penny for me as i drive alot at night and is dangerous to stop and change tyres and if the wife drives it and gets a puncture she can also keep going until she gets home

I put normal tyres on my 130i at 70000kms. Before I did, I enquired about the effect on motorplan.

I was told that it doesn't affect it, as long as the tyre is the same size and speed rating as the ones originally fitted.

Never had any issues the few times the car went back to the dealership.

Thanks for the input guys. So the people at the tyre shop was maybe just trying to get more bucks out of me by telling me I must use R/F or I might mess up the suspension.... :thumbdo:

the only rule is to replace both tyres on the same axle (ie both front or both back)

I currently have RFT on front and normal tyres on rear.

And your handling is fine? I seriously doubt it

Handling in general is fine, only under hard braking that the car swerves a bit.

Aaaah, I can relate. Sudden manoeuvring will make you wide eyed too. Been there, done that
