Rob's E39 530d - RIP

Its probably one of the worst accidents one can suffer.
Even though it is not your fault, one still has the bad image of that pedestrian.

Happened to me 6 years ago. Hit a drunk pedestrian that ran into the road. I had no way of avoiding him. Managed to swerve a little, resulting in him runnign into the fender, hitting the fender and mirror with his body, the windscreen with his shoulder and bending the roof lining with his skull.

Managed to save my Sabre. Car was out of the panelshop and the guy was still non responsive in ICU. Doubt he made it, I chose not to call again and know. Took me a while not to get upset with people walking dangerously into the road.

Oh no. This is terrible. At least you and your passenger made it out safe.

I get furious every day when I pass under a pedestrian bridge (Built for one purpose..... pedestrians!!!!) and then still need to dodge the pedestrians on the road right underneath this same bridge. Why the hell wouldn't they use the purpose built bridge and then play chicken with cars right under it?:RedNo:

I'm with you on that one. Its damn stupid.
At least now I don't stop, get out and chase after them anymore. I now just get upset, and drive on.

Thanks everyone for your support. Means alot.

I'm choosing not to post all the details of the incident on the open web as it is still an ongoing investigation. Yes not my fault in any way, nevertheless the authorities have to do their job.

I will however say that the accident was fatal for not just my car...

Again sorry bud for this entire episode, not a pleasant experience at all. Know how special your car was to you....

Best of luck finding a suitable replacement and none of that e60 talk...

Thanks...

As much as the E39 was my dream car and I still love the E39. I doubt I'll look for or get another one. Nothing will compare with what I had and if I was to get another E39 I'll always end up comparing it with what I had. So time to look at some other options.

Rob,

Very sorry to hear - an accident involving a pedestrian can be very traumatic. Glad to hear that you are ok.

It really sucks when a prime example of an older car gets written off.

Gee mate this is one touching story. Given how your thread started I enjoyed reading it, but did not think it would turn out the way it did. I am really sorry you had to loose a really good car and I am sorry you (and your passenger) had to go through this whole incident. I hope the pedestrian will be alright and I hope your next car will be able to bring you the joy that the E39 has.
