My old 5er was happier on consumption when doing between 140kph and 160kph, than doing 120kph. These big diesel engines are meant for long open roads at higher speeds.

tend to agree, seemed to cruise better 135 - 140 than at 120 :=):

My last trip to Mossel Bay in the 5er returned 1090km on the tank. We were fully loaded, doing 130kph down to Bloem, then 150kph or so onwards until we hit the garden route. Some loooong flat open spots after Graaff Reinet were... a bit faster, for testing purposes of course :)

And that was with a faulty fuel pump and one moer of a diesel leak in the feed pipe running from the filter to the engine. After all the repairs I never got to do another long trip. I'm adamant I would have gotten 1200+ km.

No they definitely are happier and geared for more than 120... This particular trip was done at posted speed limits +7kmh. No room for speeding on that N3. Average speed cameras will get you

A pic with a relatively modern BMW hitting 200K KM should come with a warning note first, especially a diesel. I'm sure there's some BMW sales people who have just died of a heart attack after seeing that. The useable life of it should be 100K KM, but you must come to trade it in before that. Any higher mileage after that is a ticking time bomb, whose engine will instantaneously explode costing you R1M to replace. And here you post a pic of a car doing double that :RedNo:

Time for downpipe :fencelook:
and software.., this cars consumption will drop to the low 5's.... do eeeeet!
Downpipe will happen. Not software. As much as she's perfectly reliable. I'm happy with the power and consumption for a daily. Im not so sure I want to start messing around with more power on a gearbox and turbo with 200k km... Erring Very much on the side of caution I know
