So I have this strange problem with my 318i E46. When I am changing from 3rd to 4th etc and push my clutch in - the revs go up and sometimes hold for a second or two before dropping.

Its very annoying pls can someone help with this?

Do you have a stock CAI? Read somewhere that it doesn't go so nicely in some 318i's.

Does it also happen when the car is idling and you rev it a bit?
Is the accelerator smooth or does it feel a bit stiff in places?
Found this, dunno how useful it is:

Fault:

Accelerator pedal is stuck.

Cars involved:

All 3 series manufactured up to July 2002.

Reason:

The surrounding temperature being high, hot air blows into Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor from the heater and expands it.

Solution:

Take off the APP sensor and inspect the adapter plate for the part no being 6.751.144, if this is the number, then APP sensor needs to be replaced with one of part no 35.406.762.480 for 3 series E46, Automatic Transmission and part no 35.406.762.481 for 3 series E46 with Manual Transmission.

This happened to me on my e36...turned out my floor mat had shifted up and was pushing against the base of the accelerator pedal:=):...sounds stupid I know but just check this before dismantling anything...

On the e46's the carpet is "screwed" in place so its not that.

What I've found with my car is when the car is cold it revs quickly and easily but when up to temp it does that rev blipping thing when changing gears same as OP's issue
