Nearly 30 years ago Mercedes Benz made a classic South African commercial. Basically the story of a man who drove over a cliff-edge on the famous Chapman's Peak Drive and survived in his Mercedes Benz.
It was made even more famous because BMW did a rip off famously talking about 'wouldn't you want a car that can take the Benz' or something to that effect.
I think most advertising is pretty average. This is not.
It is not only a reflection of the innovation in motor cars but also a good take on the evolution (or not) of advertising. The basic principles of emotion and tugging at the heart strings. Firstly, in 1991, with emotion of such a violent accident and then in 2018 with emotion of letting go of the steering wheel and letting go deliberately. Powerful. Smart. Creative.
Anyway, Mercedes have made a big statement, wonder if BMW have the capability to repeat what they did in the early 90's. Over to you BMW South Africa!
PS. He wouldn't have been tired if he was in the Ultimate Driving Machine :roflol:
