Retrofit PDC

Anyone know where I can get PDC installed and colour matched in the Johannesburg area?

Yeah, the previous owner spec'd the car bloody weird. Put a whole stack of other expensive extras and didn't choose pdc.

By the way, is it possible to hook up after the fact to the iDrive?

I'm not sure how true this is, I also made an enquiry to retrofit pdc into my e92... The bs told me that since it didn't come from the factory like that, you have to put an aftermarket system that probably won't work with the idrive...

Like I say, sounds like bs to me....

However if you do come across a system, plesase let me know. I'd really be keen to have a system installed onto my car aswell

LOL.
From what I know, you will pay a shedload to retrofit a "proper" bmw pdc, and non bmw stuff would not work with the i-drive...
there are a few brands of pdc that use "lasers" to gauge distance, which have the added benefit of making it difficult for some of the newer speed detectors to "work properly when trying to detect your speed"

well you have two options buy a second hand kit from a scrapyard (probably broken with missing parts) or go the BMW for a$$ rape :(

the other thing you need to look at is if these can be fitted to you current bumpers or if you need to replace them or buy different inserts for them...

all this is going to be $$$ for a beeping noise when you reverse...

Hahaha - well spotted Philip :)

PDC is actually pretty handy, both our cars have, mine in front too (one of those strange options ticked by the original owner rather than rain sensors or Xenons), but the bakkie of course has nothing, and that's really a pain to judge distances from! :nonono:

After market is fine if it can't be hooked up to the iDrive. Those kits are cheap. A few hundred rand for a kit as opposed to bumper damage is certainly worth it. Had it on both the E46 and E90 which makes parking a bliss!

BMW charges 8k each side i.e front and back. At least that was the quote when I wanted it retrofitted to the front of my E90, have it in the rear only.
I'm the idiot that forgot to check if they spec'd it with rear only or front and rear when I ordered it :)

Image audio here in Durbs said they will install it aftermarket for 3k per side and it will look OEM, BMW was cool with that as well.

Get it from a scrapyard, I will fit it.

Your car needs to be coded, but can do that.

Not saying that I have done it, but I believe I have the tools to do, it may be fun...

But remember to get harnesses the works...

You "believe" that you have the tools? :roflol:

Will this be new ground?

Well,

I am not too sure if the PDC is part of the optical bus, or on one of the K/L/I Lines of the vehicle.

If it is part of the optical bus, we would need to break into it, and then reconfigure/rescan the optical bus to detect the new module, this I have the tools for. This is the likely scenario

If it is part of the L/I line or another bus which is another posibility, the change would have to be made to the ZCS or FA coding, which I have the tools for, but have not done yet.

Hence the "I believe" i have the tools for :)

Would be keen to try this though, everytime I do, I learn :0

By the way, does anybody know if the E60 uses byteflite, or was that limited to the E65
