Request from the Diesel guys

To all the farmers

I am seriously considering replacing my car in the near future with a diesel, preferably the 320d E90. My budget will probably also only allow me to buy up to a 2007 model, which will probably be out of plan as well.

Now I've NEVER owned, driven or know someone personally who has owned a diesel bmw. My family are petrolheads and so am I.

Now lots of people have mixed emotions about whether to buy petrol or diesel. My reason for wanting the 320d is consumption and torque, and of course to remap it.

With that being said, I would like to see a thread/s that consist of:

What to look out for when buying Diesel
Real World Diesel Maintenance Costs out of Plan (Servicing etc)
Turbo life of the Diesel motor (specifically E90)
Any common issues the E90 320d <2007 has

Any other advice would be appreciated.

where you situated if you want to get a feel for a diesel, we can arrange a drive. mine still got plenty of MP left, so no idea of maintenance cost.

I am a petrol head, big time, my previous car was a E90 323i. But I think my 320d's replacement will be another Diesel.

What's your budget and have you considered a 2006 E90 330d instead?

I won't be making the change soon, only in the next year or so, however will look to probably spend at most R150k-R160k. Have been looking at 330d prices and they seem to be out my range at this stage.

In that range next year, you should be able to get a 330d. Not saying that there's anything wrong with a 320d, but a 330d is in a different league

Will continue to check, and if a deal stands out I will consider the move sooner, but like I said, not in a hurry. One other thing I don't like about 330d's I've seen is, most of them have wood trim

That's because 330d are bought by old men .... just kidding, but trim can easily be changed or covered.

My suggestion is to go test drive both a 320d and 330d and let the cars speak for themselves.

I want to be well prepared before buying a diesel

That's unfair, 320d will win.
