Hey

Also getting a black screen at the top of every page......

Might be the browser but then again every other site works fine.....

Anyone knows what it could be?

Thanks

Twice this week when logging in I get the message that I have been banned, cannot access the site.
Usually try again in about 30min and all is fine???

That might just be a side effect of the updates or a case of old cache (Stored info) from the old forum clashing with the new forum. You could try and clear your browser's history, but you'll loose saved passwords and any other info kept by the browser (IE). In FireFox you have more control what history data you can clear. Let me know if you want more info on how, what, and where.

From what I can see your profile seems fine. :thumb:

I have received a screen shot from a user experiencing the same and have sent it on to the webmaster. The user I got the screen shot from is on Explorer 7. What version are you using? Knowing this could help point out what might be wrong for the forum to display incorrectly.

Thanks

Thanks Nic, have experienced this issue on the old forum as well and did clear browser history etc. Did not work, spoke to Freerider back then not sure if there was an issue but it usually worked after a little while...:dunno:. I use CellC 3G to browse, could this perhaps be the issue?

wykid, I think what happens is that your IP does not stay very static when using 3G, and the bans on mybb are IP specific. Sometimes you might be riding on the same IP subnet as a banned member and as such it shows that you have been banned. Next time it does that, disconnect and re-connect and try again, that way we will at least have a better idea of where the problem lies.

When I click "Mark this forum read" on any subforum, it marks everything as read in all the forums...

That's how it works unfortunately. We're using MyBB software, so I'm not sure if it can be changed.

Regarding the black screen problem users have on older browsers:

When some the scripts were first used it didn't work properly in the latest versions of some browsers (Specifically IE9). The script was then updated so it would work in the latest browser versions. Unfortunately, updating it made it not work in IE7. The best would be for users to update their internet explorer to IE8/9 or start using something like FireFox or Google Chrome.

Download links:
FireFox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/
(FireFox will import any stored info from Internet Explorer)

Google Chrome: http://www.google.com/chrome/

IE9: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/products/ie/home
(I haven't personally downloaded IE9 as I only use FireFox. Please let me know if there is any issues downloading it and I'll find a different link.)

more 503's today, and last night the site didnt resolve at all for a few minutes

I must say that the new host is way worse than the old one in terms of stability

Right now we are running the forums and doing constant updates in the background. I've been told that this "combo" is placing a lot of strain on the server. Once all the updates have been done, the server should be fine. If not we'll take it from there.

We will not go back to the previous host or server or the old forum.

The updates are essential to what we want to achieve in the long term. We envisage the updates/changes to the forum to be completed by Friday next week. Then there will be no more input from the side of the webmaster and we will be free to enjoy the forum with no interference.

The phase 3 of developments will be done on a another server and will not interfere with the forum because they will be unrelated. Only in two to three months time will we integrate the concept into the current forum...followed by zero updates....because the fusion will be done off-line. The inconvience now, should not deter us from posting. It will come to an end soon and we can look forward to the new things in the pipe-line.

I can report on this. Running W7x64, IE9 - latest.
Since I updated Adobe flashplayer to the latest version today, to fix flashplayer insert positioning issues (on e.g. BMW.co.za), I also now get the black area at the top of the screen.

The positioning issue is now fixed.
I run both Firefox and IE9 on the same machine.
Firefox still displays the page correctly.
Seems to be flash player related.
Hope this helps diagnosing the issue.

box rebooted - fixed

Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Please make a plan, It is frustrating continually getting this message !

We have a plan. The hosting company will move us to a less crowded server. This will cause some downtime, but a full thread with more details will be posted as soon as things are finalized with the hosting company. :thumb:

iI’m running IE8 and I’ve got a strange thing happening, whenever I’m posting it takes forever to recognize what I’ve typed and then becoz of the delay the words come out incorrectly with spaces in the wrong places and capital’s the wrong letters, etc. I noticed that when I type, the smily icons freeze and then after typing a letter it moves again…Is there perhaps some setting I need to change? I currently use word to type and then copy and paste into the post…
