Replacement V8 Engine Suggestions

Hi Guys,

So I am struggling to find a replacement engine for the E53 4.6is.

What other engine can I fit with the same power or more? Without doing alot of modifications?

Will an M5 engine fit? Will a 4.8 be a perfect match?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

What is wrong with the current engine?

The oil pump failed, and apparently the pistons, sleeves, crankbearings, chain guide are all shot, and the bill to repair everything is R120K. Its currently in alberton.

The 4.6 was the biggest of the M62 family.
Unfortunately nothing bigger will be a straight fit. Only the smaller, cheaper and plentiful 4.4 will work as an alternative.

The 4.8 had a N62 with valvetronic meaning it will never work without serious witchcraft

All these boys are in and around PTA, bemows would be be your best best!

If he doesn't have, he'll point you in the right direction!

Hope you come right!

Thanks man, was at bemows on friday. Their response -> :nonono: "Its scarce and you won't find it"..

The car has been standing for more than a month now.. Maybe I should just get someone to fix it, but the current guys charge me R120K to fix it :flyfun:

There is no way n my opinion that parts alone can cost that!

If its bearings and pistons with rings?

Easy go to QEC they in pretoria, find a set of bearings!

And go get aftermarket pistons from arais or one of those boys!

Get any reputable engineering shop too do the work! Van der Linde imho.

And see where your bill sits then!

Think I might take this route, but think a huge portion of that amount is labor, apparently the whole engine has to be taken from the body.

The other thing though, the engine did not seize...

The X5 still had it's power, was starting perfectly! Just had that terrible noise. And when the car showed me the warning "Pressure Low. Shutoff engine" I did, so could it really have killed so many internals?

I am getting very depressed, the X has been standing for way to long now, can't find any engines for it, no one wants to repair it. This is really a headache

bmwpower.co.za had a recon 4.6is engine advertised a few months back for R45k. Check out their website, maybe it is still available.
Buy my 4.6is for R160k then you have two. one for spares.:=):
