Replacement Motor

Howzit Gents,

So i think its time to replace the Motor on my E46. It is an N46B20 with 500000 on the odo.

What do you guys think is my best way forward? 2j and boost the crap out of it, or find a replacement N46?

The car is currently sitting at home doing less than 200kms a month now - would like to turn it into a toy. I have no idea what goes into replacing the motor though.

If you going to track in a straight line go with the 2J.

If you want a toy you can enjoy everyday:

Get an e36 328i motor and upgrade it. M3 cams, M50 intake, change the pulleys, electric fan, headers and straight pipe exhaust, lightened flywheel, LSD and a good ECU tune.

Or turbo @ 0.7 bar

MLS head gasket + ARP head studs.

Thanks guys - i think i am going with the 328 and boost. It is going to be a long term project and i would like to do everything by myself. I have no idea what to expect with costing but i will start doing my research now that i know in which direction i want to go.

Im glad to hear you not making a bastard BMW! M52 FTW!
Although, you wont get 500m down the road with a boosted M52 on the stock 318i diff and sideshafts, you going to need a complete M3 rear suspension and limited slip diff to reliably put the power to the road. I have some of the parts you need, pm me.
