Remote wont unlock after batt removal

Gents took the battery and mechanism out of the shell of my key to wash my key in sunlight soap (OCD dirt freak as i am).

Put it all together again and the remote wont open the car?

Dafuq?

Needs to be coded again I assume. Not sure on the procedure though. What car is it? And do you have a spare key?

Have a spare key but has no transponder, just a plastic key.

96 E36 328i

And yes Moranor the batteries are sharp, the light goes on when you press the button.

If I recall correctly from when I last owned an E36, there is a procedure to "marry" the key to the car if you replaced the battery. What does the owner's manual say?

i would take it apart and put it together again something might just not sitting right before i have it coded again... just incase...
