Hi Gents. I hope you all a chilled weekend, without the SO eating your ears off..

I'm having an issue (again) with my X3 electric tailgate...

When I purchased the car in 2019, I found the shocks to be a tad noisy (compared to my Tiguan which was absolutely silent) when opening and closing the tailgate. I addressed the issue with BMW and they (apparently) replaced both shocks under Motorplan. At the beginning of this year, the tailgate would unlock when pressing the button, but fail to open. When trying to close it, the button would have to be pressed a few times to close it fully as it only moved a few inches when pressing the button.

I booked the car in at BMW for a service (out of Motorplan) and asked them to check the tailgate. According to the service advisor, they carried out a "software reset" which solved the issue. To me that means, they did a scan and cleared any errors, if any.

Fast forward to last week; I was getting the car washed, I tried to open the tailgate and voila! the problem is back.. I suspect the person at the car wash opened the tailgate manually when I turned my back away for moment. I'm not entirely sure if that caused the issue. I then took the car to a mechanic who I know, he did a scan but no errors popped up. The tailgate opens and closes automatically, once a day.. and then back to being a lazy arse.

Anyone else have/had the same issue?

I had that issue on my F25, the tow bar will eventually get stuck halfway and a warning will come up.

I had to replace the entire tow bar unit.

Sorry I see your talking about the tailgate my bad.

Bud,

The motor that is controlling the opening and closing...would that not possibly be an issue. I am not too familiar with this setup but sounds like something is seizing...

How is your car battery?
Maybe unrelated - my Macan electric boot issues were due to a poor battery.
