howsit guys

ive been looking around for a daily drive car for a while now and came across a few options , was looking at cars like yaris. fiestas, corollas. sentras etc. and wasnt really happy with what you pay and what you get.

my uncle suggested a BMW 318ti to me. ive never owned a BMW and niether have my parents. so dont have true experience with them. i know everyone says exp maintanance but my uncle said that he had 2 and not a days trouble. basically i need a reliable fuel saving car that has decent space and more than 1.4 power so i can do long distance aswell, this will be my daily.

id like to know if im going the right route. i found a few with like 120kms on clock that are reasonable priced.

if not this option then its gona have to be a yaris 1,8 or something :bangdesk:

any comments and info will be appreciated.

ah ah. come on over Brendan, we have cookies

Ok on a serious note, I would rather go for the 325ti, or a good well cared for 320d.

You cannot beat a 320d in this regard.

yoh so sharp got replies :rollsmile:

thanks guys. to be honest if i had about 40-50k more id buy a dream and thats a e90 330d i love them. everything i need

i hear theres lots of issues with e46 diesels?? not sure how true that is.

my budget is around max 95k. this must include all fees etc

i didnt want a 6cyl motor as theres more maintanace and issues that can arise. is the M54 a 6cyl 2lt motor?

STT i changed phones please watsapp me so i can get your number again.

M54 is a 6 Cyl and to be perfectly honest its going to be cheaper in the long run than the 4 cylinder 318...

E46 330d is a fantastic car, but look for a manual...

Pre Face E46 320d's are problematic, look for late model ones... 04-05

bru the facelift E46 320d's did not have issues like the pre-facelift, it was all sorted by then. for R95k, you can get a real nice cab. yes that 320i is a 2.2 l6, but the BMW 6 pot motors is very reliable and bullet proof if taken care of.

cool, will whatsup you my fuel consumption pic again ne :tease:

Yes and No

E46 320d were prone to turbo failure

E46 330d manuals are solid

E46 330d Auto if driven like a prick and tuned like a race car will break

However with any turbo car if the owner is a doos and drives the shit out of the car Monday to Sunday not letting the car warm up cool down ect it will break. There are some great examples of E46 diesels on the forum, both manual and auto with some high km’s

good luck with the search

There's a really nice E46 320d Sport for sale on the forum here for 80k iirc... Leaves you some spare money to give it a service when you get it and so on

If you are looking at the E46 engine line-up, with exception to the 330d, the petrol engines are the safer ones - let's face it, the 320d's had problems! But I would also say, stick with the 6 cylinder petrol engines rather than the 4 pots! M54 is probably one of the best range of engines that BMW made!!!

Depending on your budget, I would say you cannot go wrong with an E46 320i or 325i (330i is always the ultimate of course). But if it has to be an E46 Compact, then look at the 325ti...

i still say e46 320i manual. You can pic up a decent individual for that price.
I had one. I enjoyed it more than my e90 325i.
On the open road i used to get diesel mileage and was really a joy to drive.

I would buy one again hands down, it is one of the best looking BMWs to date.

thanks for all the help and replies guys. some real good solid info here.

now you have given me more options. are these m54 motors thirsty?

maybe a E46 320i or 325ti might be the way to go. or even a 330d E46

i see you can pickup a E90 320d aswell in that price range.

ive been advised to stay away from auto boxes as people tend to not maintain them properlly.

Question: whats acceptable mileage for a second hand bmw ? under 120kms?

thanks again guys.

Just had a look on Carfind:

E90 320D (2006, 115 kW) with 142 200 km on te clock. Advertised for 99k. I'm pretty sure you could get it down a bit, to fit your budget.

Also e46 330D (2006, 135 kW) with 185 000 km on the clock for 89k.

etc.

If looked after most BMW's will last a lifetime.

For example on the forum we have a 528i with over 400 000kms numerous diesels (3.0d's) with over 200k km, 300k km and even 400k

I'd say try and find something under 200 000km's... You should be able to get a good E46 320i with less than 150 000 in your budget
