the filter is fairly new, but ill check that out tomorrow.

ill have a look in some of the manuals, but id like to see what the pressure is aswell.

anyone around here got one that i can borrow? mine is not up to the job, ive got a t-piece made up already.

I am also going with a faulty fuel pump. The 535i I had did the same and one day just died and didn't start till I replace the pump. After that all my problems where solved, miss firing, sluggish on pull away, stuttering all it just gone.

Good luck.

Please do not forget about your crank pick-up sensor and also check for a slightly loose earth strap next to your engine mounting or the brown earth wire connector on your injector loom by the cylinder head, the crank sensor insulation can be cracked and ingest water.

it doesnt smell unusually bad, normal i THINK. it does tend to blow stewam and waterish stuff out the back (which makes everything black) and then i end up having to hose off the driveway again.

vacuum lines seem in order.

earth is good but will check the injector one again.

changed oil today and new oil filter and added injector cleaner yesterday but didnt really make a difference.

i just want to check the pressure now and rule that out or confirm but i cant find a fuel pressure gauge anywhere!:argh:

ICV i think is definately on the frits, but dont think thats causing the other problems. crank sensor will be next on the list.

taking the car to rosenpark motors in durbanville tomorrow as they are basicly next to my work. they will check fuel pressure and also run the obd (pre obd on my car) just to see what it says. i really hope this clears a few things up as i want to whip some 328 ass in a week or two:rollsmile:

Riiiight so the mechanic says the feul pressure is all good, 2,5 and 3,5 bar. Not too sure what the 3,5 bar is as he is too busy to talk to me, but thats fine cuz that means he is too busy to get payment from me.

the CO2 however was way out which he rectified. it was on 6% and now its on 1%.

also the diagnostics just said that my ICV is faulty, but that I could have told you.

car does seem to drive better and the stuttering is less. it still has its hickups at high revs and full throttle but less and also just once or twice, not the superbike limiting sound.

but ya, feels like its pulling better, maybe the ICV is leaking on full throttle which is letting air in, can this be?

You can pick this up easily with a can of quickstart or any flammible liquid such as carb cleaner

It comes with a long straw on it.

If the car is on idle, direct spray around the intake/icv/brake booster bla bla bla

If the revs pick up for a second after you used the spray, you have a vacuum leak.

However, this will cause a sluggish/unpredictable engine response, but it wont let it smoke as you originally explained.

This reminds me of my good old MINI Clubman 1275E. The bastard from hell it was but I loved it.

Had it for eight months with this exact problem. Replaced carbs, filters, the works and nothing worked. On the day I sold it I took it to some dude in Parow who sprayed the engine, told me to go shopping and come back in an hour.

On return he told me, with a look of dismay that my manifold was about 1mm off centre and that the car had been running on two of the three cylinders it had. He re-aligned it and geez did that car rocket.

Almost cancelled the sale after taking it over Kontermans Kloof three times back to back at full chat only an hour before handing over the keys.

thanx LZ, ive heard of this method, i will try this next. but i need to sort this icv out so i can know the true extent of the problem at idle atleast.

haha i know what you mean! thats why i dont even want to think of selling because just as i do the problem will become apparent.

is that the place close to zakspeed? there is always minis on the corner there, saw a perfect orange clubman there today.

Im ready to REALLY set it on fire now.

swoped the injectors out with working ones and still nothing!!!!!!!! I dont get it! ive also sprayed stuff on intake and didnt make a difference to the idle. I dont know what to do next, I really dont.

its like the car misses less when coldish. the first pull there was almost nothing but the 3rd or 4th its started again slightly and then just where we was before. this is why I originally thought ECU because its learning wrong.

I just want to take it somewhere and get it back better.

can it be crank sensor?

sigh now its holiday time so no one is open or lus to work:cry::bangdesk::cry::argh:

I have a little update , shes MUCH better with LRP?! was driving to Hermanus over Christmas with unleaded and then to Veldrif over new years with LRP and with the LRP it is much much better. with the unleaded its as if the car gets used to the long road and then its real bad when pulling off and so. then with the LRP it was smooth when coming to a stop and pulling away. so much so that a full throttle 2nd and 3rd gear pull had NO hiccups whatsoever! a few more pulls has its hiccup and miss now and then but much better. does this help diagnosis?

ok so ive done prettymuch everything but this car still has this stuttering/missing thing!!! :argh::argh::argh::argh::argh:

high gear low rpm if i put foot it stutters

also 1st and second at about 4K and 5K RPM its has this weird missing like a superbike limiting. 3rd gear is better but sometimes it does same thing.

when i just quickly touch accelerator revs go down. also when i pull away revs will usually first go down before it goes up

when cold it idles horrible (not at all) and when hot is slightly surges but not much (sometimes not at all) but this i suspect is the ICV

right what ive tried:

swop coil
new leads
swopped distributor cap
filters are all new
sparkplugs are all prettymuch new
swopped out ECU
new AFM

injector cleaner was put in before my head went and it helped a bit but will put in more when i get a chance to go to midas

tried testing fuel pressure but that just resulted in me with petrol in my eye and on my hair.:bangdesk:

what can this be?

does anyone maybe have a fuel pump to swop out and see if this makes it better? or maybe a proper gauge?
can it be injectors?

im at thr point of taking it to a mechanic and spending too much money on this already

--E30 325i--

check inside the distributor- inside at bottom of shaft is a set of type of weights that control advance /retard these often do not get checked and start sticking - if your model has these - worth a look

Do you have the distributor on the front of the camshaft ? Have youreplaced the rotor ? The pickup on the drivers side at the front crank pulley has its wire run behind the waterpump pulley to the plug under the intake manifold . This wire can chafe through and you lose power , may get misfire . You could tape it up with insulation tape if you see and marks on it . It nearly sounds as if the car has a spark problem , it is losing spark under high loads like high gear/low revs . Good luck .
