I have heard of a case like this where the owner of the car was accused of over-revving his E92 M3.

Upon closer inspection BMW realised that the problem was due to a faulty coil I think it was.

Will check with a mate who knows him well and find out the facts for you.

Yours may well be an isolated case like his.

Perhaps the person you bought it from installed non-OEM software? You might not have known about this had you not over-revved the car (i.e. tried to push it past the rev limit).

Any chance you might have accidentally made a money shift ? ie 5th into 2nd etc that might have pushed the engine past 9000rpm (even for a split second) ?

Go to BMW South Africa and state your case if you indeed dont have any software etc on the car. I would take it to someone like Xcede and let them check if you have non-oem software. If not, then you definitely have a case

Thanx guyz. Def no mistake in gear change and also I never redline da car. Gonna see Bmw later dis week. Will keep u guyz posted what happens.

Forget to mention BMW said car does not have chip or software upgrade. It was "overrevd ". That the part that does make sense to me.

Mate then there is no reason for them to drop your motorplan. Tell them to show you where in the terms and conditions it states that if the engine is over revved then they cancel the plan.

By their own admission there is no software, then it only leaves a mis shift, or you holding it on redline, but even that, the cars have soft limiters that stop them over revving. So if it did in fact go past redline then its an issue with the car, not with what you did.

It's possible the previous owner had software & revved it to 9000rpm. That will be logged & will show in the FASTA. But the time & date of the "overrev" will be logged. You have to show the date when you took ownership & the car & prove it was "over-revved" before you bought it.

it is possible but if he bought it from someone who put software on it, wouldnt they have picked it up when they transferred it to the new owner? so something happened inbetween

Apart from the money shift, rev limiter?!

It really does sound way to severe to me! Hope you can get this sorted out!!

Confirmed, on the manual E92 M3 I referred to previously the cause of the over rev was a faulty coil.
His motorplan was re-instated as far as I know but he has since sold the car.
Good luck.

what is the redline on the M3 ?? if its below - one has to ask BMW how the car managed (assume its stock) to get to 9000rpm.

flip. thats bs if you ask me. i would be scared to drive my m3 if they were so ready to cancel mp based on over-revving.

might be an idea to quote the faulty coil case and say if that is possible then so are other scenarios. they need to prove you modified the car, not over-revved it!

its almost like bmw sell you a car looking for ways to cancel your mp and hence make a lot more money on the sale. do they not realise that people wont buy their cars again. i for one wouldnt buy another bmw if i was innocent and this happened to me.

Guys, BMW can not only see the maximum revs achieved but they can also see the total time the engine spend at this revs, maybe they based their cancellation on the fact that the car was "abused" for too long time period above the allowed limit?
