So in preparation for our Fanatics Raceday, I decided to get some preventative maintenance done.
A few weeks back, ZF did the gearbox service, I took it in a bit late (high millage) but happy to report that all scans were within acceptable limits and it got a thumbs up. Nico was quite impressed with the XHP firmware on the box as well. :fencelook:
On Friday, I had the V-Belt and Tensioner replaced. I was quite surprised on the condition of the belt, It still looked new with zero cracks or signs of wear and tear. The old tensioner did have some play on it so I am glad I decided to get that done.
Next up was a brake fluid flush. I figured since I will be doing the track run, I should have this done, even though it was well before the service interval scope. I am hoping that the new fluid will help me with lowering brake fade on the track.
Yesterday I got the coolant flush completed. I needed to do this because I was getting low coolant errors when the car was cold, mostly on first start-up.
I must say that it is not as easy as doing one on the E90, The F30 needs to be bled by removing the coolant pipe of the water pump. There are no bleed screws on the radiator, quite a dumb design IMO.
Before draining the system I inspected all of the hoses to make sure there were no leaks, thankfully everything looked good.
I did some research before the coolant flush and found that another dumb design by BMW was by building the coolant sensor into the expansion tank. So yes as you can guess, I also replaced the expansion tank. I ran the bleed procedure 3 times just to be sure there were no air pockets in the lines and also inspected for leaks again.
Unfortunately this did not resolve my problem as this morning I was greeted with a low coolant error. I am actually dumb struck at the moment. And don’t know what could be causing it. I am going a slightly overfill the reservoir and monitor from there, my reasoning is to eliminate contraction of the coolant at low temps . If anyone has other suggestion, please let me know. :ty:
