Awesome car, congrats!
If I may ask, what was it about the 535d that was bugging you? I would of thought it a no brainer. Was it the condition or something mechanical?

Also, I must of missed how the e90 was laid to rest? what happed?

The 535d was awesome but just felt way to numb, everything was soft and smooth as expected for a 5er, I just didnt want to be left comparing my old diesel to the new one. Link to my 330d thread can be found on my signature

Mod list?

hmm mod list, well SW and DP is a must, this big boat needs really needs the extra ponies. And then also some cosmetic mods.

Well there were a few things that needed immediate attention.
Like the M5 badge on the grills :thumbdo:
This was actually one of the first things i tried to remove when I fetched the car, only to realize that the grill is OEM and that the badge cant be removed. :blueCry:

As mentioned, there were a few cosmetic items that needed urgent attention.
My first changed on the car were those bonnet and trunk roundels.:thumbdo:
They are actually the old Motorsport Logo, its really cool but just didnt suit the car in my opinion.

Here is a small history lesson.
SOURCE
1978-1981
bmw_roundel_wiyh_a_motorsport_overlay_w_small_7901105908.jpg

An attempt to create a separate emblem for the BMW Motorsport division cars. A similar design version, but in grey and black, has been already used by BMW on a steering wheel of M1 (E25; 1978-1981), and on E12 M535i (1980-1981), but never on a body nor wheels of the cars. This idea was forsaken on M635 CSi (E24; 1984-1989).

Next was the 535i Badge removal, I prefer the clean look at the rear

Ten followed but some darker Smash & Grab tinting done by The357. Their workmanship and service is amazing :bravo:

Car looks clean, congrats on the purchase!

I'd be very keen for you to do a small write up on how the car "feels" compared to your E90? Not only from a petrol / diesel point of view (power delivery, sound, and of coarse consumption) but also from a 3 vs 5 series perspective!

PS: Seeing that you going badge less at the back, when are you going to remove the M5 badge in the grill? :fencelook:

This looks good. Has a nice aggressive look to it. Love that lip on the front bumper! :praise:

I am not sure how BMW has followed through on their 5 series from the previous E39 but from my own experience of owning an E39 252i I felt that the 5 series are so solid, no rattles anywhere. Smooth and comfortable. opening and closing the doors was very nice as they were so damn solidly built but at the same time the car handled so damn well and sat around corners like it was on rails.

Thanks Man,
Comparing the two cars is an easy one. They are both very different in terms of feel handling and acceleration. But bear in mind that the 330d was modded, from ECU, turbo to suspension and brakes. So it didn’t really drive like a standard e90 msport. The 330d was like a freaken go-cart. :cartel:

Jumping into the F10 you definitely notice how much cabin space is available and also how nicely put and ergonomic everything is. The comfort level cannot be matched from a 3 series including the F30. Simple and well thought of features like the steering wheel raising to give you more leg room when you switch off the vehicle to get out. The dual control (left/right) climate control for the driver and passenger and also the ambient lighting on the door sills. The cabin is indeed a very nice place to be. The extra space lets you know that you are in a big car, however when driving it does not feel big at all. The only time you realize how much fatter she is, is when to step on the brakes and feel the inertia pulling you forward. Im sure a lot has to do with the suspension dynamics of the car to give you a more soft and silky drive and yes it does that so well. I had the privilege to recently drive down to the coast and the best description I can give is that the car just glides. It was hands down one of the most comfortable drives I have ever experienced.

Been a heavier car and lacking loads of torque that I had in the diesel, it does feel considerably slower but when she gets up to cruising speeds over 80km/h the flood gates open up and reaches the limiter effortlessly.

With the consumption, I must say that I am quite impressed. Daily urban driving I average around 10.5l/100km which I think is quite decent. Long Distance highway I was down to 7l/100km and that’s been fully loaded with 3 adults and two kids and a boot full of luggage.

Sound wise, now that’s probably a hard one for me at the moment. My diesel sounded epic, the grunt of that car was unmatched. The F10 however is fitted with a MPERF zorst. From inside the car the tone is nice but a bit too soft for what I’m use to. I have however been told that it sounds really good from outside the car. I guess that would have a lot to do with the sound deadening that's added to the F10. I think what I am enjoying the most about the petrol is revving the crap out till 6k+ rpm(something I could never do with a diesel) and the turbo spool and dump sounds are brilliant.

With regards to the M5 badge on the grill, that was one of the first things that I tried to remove when I got the car, as mentioned previously, It’s an OEM M5 grill and the badge cannot be removed as it is part of the actual grill.

I am open to suggestion on how to remove the badge without damaging the grills, alternatively I will probably order an aftermarket set and put these on sale.

I am amazed that the badge delete looks as good as it does. I am not a fan of it in general, but it definitely works with your car.

Never saw myself liking this car...

But hey... Your car looks great! :blowheart:

I like the little attention to detail you starting off with. Don't stop, your car will land up looking mind blowing.

Update Time :smilebounce:

One of my biggest gripes with the car is the dreaded base stereo sound system. I cant for the life of me understand why this is still used by BMW. In my opinion all of their cars should come with the HiFi Loud as a standard with the option to upgrade to Harman Kardon or Bang & Olufsen. Anways lets end this rant with some positivity.

I opted to just change the standard midrange speakers and replace them with the HiFi Loud Front Mid Door Speaker & Tweeter + Inserts.

The Job itself seemed pretty easy to do after I skilled myself with some youTube Videos.
You basically just pop out the door trim. Remove 2 torque screws that hold the door, and yes that's right, only 2 screws hold up that massive door panel. once the screws are removed the door basically just pops out by releasing the side clips with a firm but gentle tug.
The Mid Speakers were a straight swop out, I then removed the old non tweeter grill and replaced them with new grills. Installed and connected the tweeters. Made sure everything works and then proceeded to put everything back together. It probably took me about an hour to do but that was due to me been extra careful not to break anything

So, is the sound great....no not at all, but it is definitely much better. The new speakers and tweeter pushed up the clarity a lot and music is now more enjoyable. I will still need to tackle the lack of bass issue, I will probably just take the easy way out and put a sub in the boot. Its not like I'm going to feel a loss in space as that boot is so damn massive.

On top is the OLD mid and the Bottom is the new one.
