Racing against Honda S2000

I know this thread probably won't last long but I thought I would post my experiences.

So I'm in Rosemead Avenue, at the robots. Honda S2000 right in front of me. The guy had passengers in the car so I thought to myself, 'yeah, this car is definitely faster, but perhaps the extra passenger weight (2 other fellows in the car) might close the gap.

So I'm trying not to laugh or pull funny faces because the guy was looking at me in his rear view mirror. I could sense he wanted to leave me in the dust but I wasn't absolutely sure. You can never tell...for sure....So the lights turn green and he floors it. I floored it.

I gave up after 1st gear. I just took my foot off the accelerator and I could see the guy in the distance. I guess I was just not prepared, but man, that was embarrassing. It made things worse that I was laughing when he took me by surprise. Guys, I was laughing.

If I had given it my best shot I'm sure it wouldn't have been such a disaster. I mean, the guy probably had an extra R120-140 kg's worth of weight there.

Anyway, just wanted to post my experience. I ate dust tonight. Tomorrow I fight another day and hopefully get my chance. :)

friend of mine owned a S2000,
He never got away from me, infact, from pull away i had him,
only from 3rd would he manage to catch up, cause I would be in 4th already.

The S2000 is an amazing car....
Its has 2L vtec motor making +/- 180kw in stock form ... thats alot of power for such a small car
This is propbably one the fastest vtec motors that came out of production in SA

so if you did lose to him dont feel too bad... unless you driving an M3 or something... but he still might give you a good run :)

btw Olorin what car did you try racing him with?

Look ,they light, they fast, but they need to get the revs up before there is power,
so DSC off, 3,500-4,500rpm, drop clutch, and you off while he still spinning...
then quickly to 2nd gear, into 3rd... then when you get to 4th, doing about 145-150km/h,
he is still in 3rd, reving the crap out of that vtec, and then he catches up... easy :)

Lunatik, I've got an E90 320i. 110 kw's. :) I just thought the extra weight on the S2000 (remember, two other people in the car at the time besides the driver) might make it a more competitive run but to make matters worse he caught me off guard which kind of screwed up the race for me.

The S2000 is a 2 seater and a snug fit as well, where was the 2nd passenger sitting???

Coisman, those figures don't look right to me at all. The S2000 has over 160 kw's. Mine has 110 kw's and I believe the E90 is also heavier and it's just 1/2 sec slower ? Are you sure those results are accurate ? In all the 0-100 km tests I've seen, the 320i should be hitting 8.9 secs, not 7.8, unless I'm missing something.

I don't know where the other passenger could have been sitting, now that you mention it. But I could have sworn I saw a third passenger....somehow...:)

I've got a 2005 320i. So where would my car rank ? 9 seconds ? 9.5 ? I could have sworn I timed 9 secs flat 0-100.
