Quick question, If I start a workshop in CPT?

I was just wondering about doing myself a career change and wondering if I open a BMW workshop in Capetown, who would use it?

Those that know me are aware I have an approach that's different from the norm, I know my BMW's, I diagnose extensively before attempting to solve a problem and I never rush. I'll leave the bits about being an obsessive perfectionist out.

I would have to start small, doing diagnosis and routine services only, but who would use my service if I attempted this?

Even though I like to work on my cars myself, in principle I would say yes, as your attention to detail and dedication I have seen you put into your work is simply astonishing, and even someone as hopelessly paranoid as me wouldn't mind you working on my car.
This is all theoretical of course as I am a bit far away  but I give my vote of confidence at least.

I have an e39, e30, Mitsu Colt V6, two 2.3l VW busses, Bantam and Nissan 1400 that will come your way.

I've been wondering since I met you why you haven't done this. My car would definitely be a patron of your establishment. And I can guarantee that there are enough people tired of sub-standard workmanship from some of the other BMW "specialists".

I posted a thread two weeks ago, asking if we have a bmw specialist in the N. Suburbs...and i was thinking of a tech that accomodates small customer intakes per month and also specialises for the performance aftermarket...not a tuner but a specialist in diagnostics/trouble shooting and advices accordingly. I also stated if i do not find such a techie for the NSuburbs i may have to recruit one just to fulfil this purpose...

So i am glad there are more of us thinking in this direction...there will always be a need for OEM automotive support services but the growing market is the performance aftermarket, unfortunately this has been interpreted as tuning and this is not what i am looking for....You will be fulfilling a need; the demand is there.

2012 is looking up :joy:

You would definitely have my business. I wished LZ was in CPT as he has a great rep on the forum so if you were to start something up, I'm sure it would be a similar situation. Also, while I do already have a garage that I go to, I would much rather support a forum member.

Let me know because I'm looking to have some stuff looked at/fixed in Jan.

Rick, I would most definitely bring my cars to you, and point friends/family your way!! My father in law has two BMW's and while he does do typical DIY maintenance, the more technical stuff has always been a challenge over the years for him to find someone able to sort out for him. I am starting to do my own DIY slowly but surely, but simple things of course - for the complex stuff I would much rather bring it over to you than anyone else.

And, just like with the E46's which have been out of motorplan for some time now, the E90's are going to be requiring specialists especially with the more complicated electronics and so on - everything on these cars seem to be monitored and controlled by computer electronics.

I think this is a tough industry to enter in to, but can only grow from strength to strength if done right, which I have full confidence you will do! Also, "word of mouth" advertising is still the strongest way of getting business in.

I have three months leave from tomorrow, technically I'm open for business. Will chat to Twins this week about a sponsorship of the forum.

Im not all to familiar with everyone on the forum as im relatively new, how well do you know E30s?

otherwise im with twins, Northern suburbs could really use this. best places for E30s are in southern suburbs and its not cool if you have a big problem going that far.

from what ive seen in the short while here id say go ahead! also advertise on the E30 forum I guarantee you there will be people in need!
