Pressure Converter

Hi Guys,

I have an E46 320D and i suspect that the pressure converter is gone on the turbo side. I did the normal tests with a vacume gauge and compared to a video i seen online mine doesnt work properly at all.

I could take the one from the EGR side but that makes the car run even worse and doesnt even adjust the pressure.

So my question is there any other way i could test out the converters using INPA or DIS, before i go spend R 1400 at the dealership.

And besides the dealership is there anywhere else i could get it cheaper?

The same part is used for the EGR, and that one is usually in a better condition due to lower temps. So, best test is to swap them out and block the EGR.

I did swap them, the EGR one is in worse condition, when i connected a vaccume gauge to them, the EGR just sits at atmospheric.

The problem with my car i that the most it boosts is 0.6 bar. The turbo was replaced by the previous owner. So i thought it may be the turbo aucuator. but once i connected up a vacume gauge i noticed the pressure converter doesnt really do the right thing.

If someone has a working one i could borrow that would be much appreiated.

I assume you did not get any other errors in INPA? Like the MAF or a MAP sensor?

I have a feeling that the easiest way to repair this is going to cost you some money... (start replacing parts...)

Did you measure the vacuum before the pressure converter? The vacuum lines often perish at this age and needs some attention.

Another suggestion is to get a used one from Bemows (they might also have new ones).

My INPA doesnt work as yet, ordered a cable from ebay, but its still going to take a few weeks to get here. I do have a nomal ELM 327 cable, and thats how i been checking the MAF and boost readings. The Maf only reaches a max of about 110g/s.

I tried the disconnect the MAF and drive around and see if that got better it didnt. I took out the MAP sensor cleaned it and put it back. Will take off the whole intake once my swirl flap blanks arrive.

I did measure the vacume before the converter and thats all perfect. And i checked up all the lines using a compressor for any leaks and there was nothing.

Where is Bemows, anything around the JHB area not too far from sandton?

Thanks for the advice so far :)

So update, went and got a new Pressure Converter. Now the car boosts slightly higher but its still not right.

So now im out of ideas. Anyone in the area has a cable that works with INPA?
